Anyone have their pre-order in yet? I'll be doing mine soon. I just bought my 40D in January, and in November I'll have a replacement, although it will be a nice one
full frame, 21megapixels, live view, HD video! (yeah, that's a weird one but could be fun shooting with fisheye lenses)
I'll have to order the new Nodal Ninja 180 as well, since I won't need to shoot in portrait.

Well, this was directed at the Canon camp, not Nikon
Of course you wouldn't switch. Although when I heard that Nikon had video modes on their latest cameras, I was tempted to switch. Glad Canon added that functionality (since I've already invested quite a bit into Canon lenses)

I would love to get the 5DII, but alas no money to do it. Also the 40D is being replaced by the 50D. The 50D comes closer to matching the low light abilities the of the Nikon D300.
I will be interested to see what the 5DII really has to offer. It will also mean that the 5D will be much cheaper on the used market. I might finally be able to afford one.

At the camera store I manage, we're about to start accepting used 5D cameras as a trade-in for the 5D MII. Prices are dropping for the 5D. Adorama is also a good source of high-quality, used cameras and information.
Remember: the 5D is notorious for collecting dust and the body is not as "tight" as most think. But excellent camera.
DPReview has a famous photographer lined-up to shoot a movie with the 5D MII, so keep an eye on that site for it.
All of us had bets it would be over $3K ... yet it came in at just $2,699.00. Unbelievable !

I think Canon made it $2700 because they were third to announce behind Sony & Nikon.
That allowed them to set a more competitive price point, which I'm glad.

It is not surprising that there are no replies from UK. The prices quoted in one report on the 5D MkII were, USA $ 2,699, approx £1,500 Europe € 2,499, approx £1,990 U.K. £ 2,299
The official price in UK is approximately 50% higher than the price in US. We in the UK are taken for suckers by Canon. Guys in the US are so lucky when it comes to buying cameras.
As I have been considering buying a 5D MkII, I have been looking for sources of cameras where Brits are not ripped off as in UK. (The same applies to all other camera equipment too).
If I decided to buy I shall wait until it's been on the market for a few months and discounts are available then pop out East via Bangkok and visit Fotofile, www.fotofile.net/
If I am stuck in UK I might consider buying from this company. www.onestop-digital.com/catalog/
Neither place has the 5D MkII listed yet but compare their prices with UK prices for other cameras. I do not have any links with either of these companies, nor have I previously bought from them but I have come across good reccommendations for them.
Cheers,
Penny-pinching Pete

Canon Mk 2 Virtual Tours My Canon 5D Mk II has just arrived and is fantastic! I am going to switch it on to movie mode and do a pano shot this will give me a lot of individual shots to choose from I am really looking forward to it. Unfortunately I live in the U.K and it is raining here at the moment so I will just do a pano inside the house. I have a job soon on a £3.4 Million Pound house I will post that one up as well. Should look good! So far I have tested the video I will say that it is stunning! a little jerky in places but this maybe my pc. Time for my Panosaurus to go (the previous 5d would slip off the pano head on to the floor! with this head, but this was not the current Panosaurus model) camera any ideas on the best head for accurate fast work?

Depends a little on what lenses you use for pano shooting. But I'd suggest a Nodal Ninja 5 with the new generation of R-D8 or R-D12 rotators. Or a 360Precision Adjuste or Absolute. And a tripod with a levelling centre column.

360Precision - either Absolute or Adjuste - if you can afford a 5Dmk11 why scrimp on a pano head? If you absolutely, positively have to have fast and accurate accept no substitute

Rip off Britain is right, and it isn't just Canon is it? Think Adobe, etc etc etc? And the exchange rates at present...
Meanwhile any reckless (aka wealthy) panographers out there got an order in for the DX3? Roy

Pete You forget that we in Europe have VAT. Which is from 16 to 25% and is refunded for us who has a business.
The price in US is as you say $ 2,699 almost everywhere That is 1758 GBP Ad your Vat which is 17,5% and you get 2065 GBP
But the price in UK is actually only 1900-2000 including Vat according to my searches so it is actually cheaper in UK.
And also in Denmark where the price is 14.500 + Vat = $2470 + Vat
