Being a newbie at all this I have tried several stitching programs and created a stitched pano, now what? What software do you suggest I use to publish or view it?
Thanks, Hayden

Hi Hayden,
You probably produced an equirectangular "still" image 1:2 proportion. If you want to view as a 360, you'll need to render as a QT (mov) file, or to 6 cube faces to view in DevalVR, or leave as it is and use Immervision together with an html page. QT, SWF and cube face files can be rendered with Pano2QTVR.
To put on a web site you'll need a host location, a domain, an FTP program to upload your files and a web page generator (ie: Pleinpot) or other authoring tool that will call up the appropriate 360 file, using your player of choice.

I second Pano2VR. There is a beta there to allow you to try the product out.
It is super easy. If you are having any issues they have a few good tutorial videos.

DevalVR is quite happy to display equirectangular files as well as .mov.

Pano2VR is a very cost effective solution unless you want more features such as sound, music, video, maps etc. I am still looking too... Tell me about it.

Thanks for all the responses. I have posted two VR Pano's in the Gallery section. I am just learning so I have a long way to go.

Is there an acceptible resolution and file size to posting the pano's on the web sites? I have panos that are 25-30 meg files, obviously too big. So what is the best way to reduce the file size and still come up with a sharp viewable image from a web site?
Thanks, Hayden

depends on if you want full screen or not, which i do, and i typically reduce my equirectangulars panos to between 6000x3000 - 5000x2500 px (in photoshop) before converting, this usually gives me a qtvr file between 2 & 3 MB or so -
generally speaking, i think cube faces around 1600 - 1900 should look good for full screen
this one is a qtvr file of 3MB (displayed w. flash pano player), cube faces are 1612 px - www.nylocations.com/360-panorama/hayden-planetari...

Sam, I am unable to view the panos. When I click on the image all I get is a white square. I must have a setting wrong somewhere.

Sam, FYI, I tried the panos on www.nylocations.com and I am unable to see any of them, white screen. I can see the ones at www.samrohn.com So I am not sure what the problem is why I can't see them on your other web site.

hmm, just heard the same from another user, they were using IE under XP, and did not have flash installed, which i figured was pretty universal at this point, thats what i get for not properly testing my site...
but you do have flash installed, or wouldn't see the panos on my other site, i am using swfobject there, guess i'll be redoing the pano code on nylocations this evening...
thanks for the tip

ok, seems my object/embed tags were not properly sorted, they are now fixed, the panos now play fine under IE 6 - thanks hayden !
but now i've seen how badly IE butchers my layout, you might want to try viewing it in firefox.... guess i've a bit more work ahead...

OK, works now for me. I have never tried firefox, guess I'll try.
Your images are breathtaking! The clarity, the composition, the exposures, all I can say is wow!
Nice work!
