A VERY untechnical question

Hello everyone, I will give you all a rest from the involved tech questions. My problem. I use my laptop outside in the sun a lot. So---I have problems in viewing my photos on the screen due to the sun. I have tried everything from buying an attachment which you fixed on the back of the lid of the laptop, then unfolded the sections to make an open ended box---this wasent bad, but it put a terrible strain on the hinges on the laptop, in the end i scrapped it for fear of permanent big damage. Then I tried various large cardboard boxes (cornflakes etc) but I really need something that folds up for transport. I have tried ebay, amazon etc to try and locate some kind of large openended bag but no luck. Anyone else had this problem, and how did you solve it? Mike

I have seen photographers on the street putting their laptop into a little tent. Not only for sun-protection but for weatherprotection I guess.

What about something as simple as a towel or blanket? That's how the old time photographers did it.

It worked fine, I liked being able to use my two eyes but it never appealed to any other Coolpix user.
No screen-shade will work: the brightness difference between the screen and the much brighter surrounding forbids that.

Thanks very much everyone. Especially to Mark Schuster!!! I live close to a very well known seaside town inNorth Wales, it used to be a minature version of Blackpool. It had a nickname but even to this day it is still referred to as "Sunny Rhyl." No comment Mike Owen

calumet do two good value laptop bags with fold out screen shades: www.calumetphoto.co.uk/ctl?ac.ui.pn=search.Search&query=laptop%20cases
I use their own brand one for my ibook when shooting teathered with my mast.Think tank also do one, though it's probably much more expensive.

Thanks Ed for you going to the trouble of a reply. Ive looked at the site, it looked great and interesting, but not for me---not at this moment at any rate. At this exact moment in time I just wanted a simple screen to keep the sun out--full stop. But who knows, in the future you could have started something. Thanks again Mike

As I mentioned-
www.hoodmanusa.com/
Though not very obvious from the photos on the site, their shades for laptops weigh next to nothing and collapse down into a flat little pouch. Very similar to the round "light bounce" panels that "fold in on themselves" for very compact storage. The one I have for my 12" laptop fits right into my jacket pocket. They are also fairly inexpensive.
