Hi all,

Like many others, as a newbie I find this forum is invaluable for information, ideas and technical solutions.

I also sure that it has been covered before but the forum search appears to be unavailable presently. blush

For cube faces, are there optimum sizes to view as a a small window or as full screen as give the option when viewing the gallery here?

for equirectangular panoramas (2 wide :1 high)

5000w x 2500h where 5000/ 3.14 (PI) = 1592 pixel square
4000w x 2000h where 4000/ 3.14 = about 1274 pixels square

I think with Pano2VR its possible to reduce these large images (5000 x 2500) about 80mb down to Flash 1.5mb suitable for the internet viewing at either small or full screen viewing.

Adobe Flash viewer has hard upper limit of 2880 pixels square

Inverse 2880 x 3.14 = about 9043 width

There is no 2880 pixels square limit with Flash 9.

There is a limit at 8191 pixels length but for cubefaces you can actually use up to 6602x6602 pixels if you have a very fast computer with enough Ram

Read my post here www.panoguide.com/forums/qna/4874/?page=1#msg30131

The 4600x4600 version here is usually no problem for me on my 4 year old Mac 2,0 G5
10mb download

Paul
I'm not sure how PI figures into coverting Equirectangular Projections into Cubes.

What's makes more sense to me is that an Equirec Projection horizontal measurement (width) is 360° around the "globe" at the "equator" and the vertical measurement (height) is 180° from the North Pole to the South Pole, or half the Equator

And the height or width of 2 cube faces would be half-way-around the cube.

So half the height of a EquirecProjection would make a good size for the Cube Faces to get a similar size Cubic Image, relative to the original Equrectangular Projection

Does that make sense?

Thank you Hans,
We have a 6 mbps connection... it still took 3 reloads to get the entire image visible.

Ok.. now I understand.
