Autostitch limits to only four pics?
Posted: 11 May 2008 at 21:55 GMT
I have researched “How to…” pages and the forums at panoguide.com but cannot locate an answer to my problem using Autostitch.

I obtained my copy of Autostitch at a website called “lifehacker” at lifehacker.com/software/digital-photos/how-to-cre... . It was in a zip file with a readme dated 12/2006 and the .exe file dated 1/17/2008. Filesize is 756,144 bytes

I have taken 9 photos of a room. I loaded them into Autostitch/images/test after removing your test jpg files.

Autostitch runs very nicely but will use only four of the nine photos I took. I have changed sizes several times but the program still will not use all the photos I took. I have also re-downloaded the program from various other very legitimate sources and they all have identical files and dates.

I use PaintShop Pro 9 to view and edit my .jpg files and it is in this program that the Autostitch runs my panoramic files.

Obviously I am doing something wrong. Or does the present free AutoStitch program limit a panorama series to just four photos?

You might get a bit more information from the above site. Matthew Brown’s Autostitch was fantastic in its day. One of the first automatic stitcher/blenders and almost completely intuitive. Mind you its strength, non-interventional automatics, is also its weakness. When anything goes wrong there isn't much you can do about it.
I think your problem is insufficient overlap between images. If Autostitch can't find common points, it simply stops processing and leaves you an incomplete panorama. Next time you go out on a shoot, try 10 or more around instead of 9.
Or you could try Autostitch's successor, Autopano. You can get a tial version from www.autopano.net/
