Another Stitching Problem
Posted: 10 May 2008 at 14:55 GMT
Hello there

Like alot visitors and members of this site I have learned a lot here. Up until recently I have taken reasonable panos without any stitching problems, but now I have and I have tried everything I know, including adding more control points, but I cant get it sorted. Mainly the problem is around the nadir. I never shoot a nadir shot I just use the clone and patch tools for this, with reasonable success. My settings on canon 30d and NN3 havent changed and this why Im confused. Below is a sample of my latest nadir.

Any sugestion??? or am I missing something.

You don't seem to have any serious problems, especially when you intend to clone the area. I would far rather patch in a nadir shot than copy strips of flooring from the surrounding area. You could avoid stitching problems in the area surrounding the tripod by simply taking a nadir shot pointing vertically down with the camera in situ on the head. Otherwise, it is impossible to diagnose specifically what's likely to be causing very minor misalignments like these solely by inspecting the image. The slight sawtooth effect on the head suggests the vertical arm needs shifting inwards by a mm or so, but I wouldn't expect that to be the cause of stitching errors. Parallax might be implicated. It can't be eliminated completely where fisheyes are concerned because the entrance pupil isn't a single point. Perhaps the project optimization isn't as optimum as it might be. Just can't say on this evidence.

Many thanks for help John. I will do as you have suggested and shoot a nadir shot.

Cheers
