Stereoscopic panoramas
Posted: 3 May 2008 at 18:31 GMT
Many years ago I was involved in a project based on stereo photogrammetry using TV equipment. I'll spare everyone the whole story but I keep coming back to thinking about the principle. For background, we were mainly interested in the potential for remote 3D measurement. I was involved in an entrepreneurial rather than an engineering capacity. This was in the days of analogue hardware (tube cameras, CRTs etc) with all the horrible complications of ensuing distortion - and feeble computers.

Has anyone heard of anyone looking at ways to create spherical panoramas in stereoscopic mode? The display systems are becoming practicable and inexpensive. It can't be such a huge jump from existing software, although I'm not sure if a zooming viewpoint is achievable. I may know of a potential investor in such a project if it were convincingly presented (but it isn't me!)
