D70s upgrade to D200

I would like to upgrade my camera after my next paying client. Although I highly rate the D70s, and think its superb value for money, there's 2 little things that bother me enough to consider an upgrade:
Mirrorslap which is visible on a NN3, in fact if you look carefully, you can see slight movement in the whole setup when the shutter opened and closed. Visible blur in images shot with shutter speeds in the range 1/50-1/2 second.
I would like a wider range of bracketing too.

The D200, which offers +-9Ev and mirror lockup looks like great value for money. Any feedback from users of this camera? I have a SB-600 flash and want stay with Nikon brand

Hey Gus

Price has dropped considerably for the D200 which makes it a great deal. I still use it for panos. I love the EV stops.

If you do get the D200 also get the remote.

Over here the D300 is just another CAD $500 more. Maybe wait a bit. Price will eventually drop.

i'm using a D300 on NN3, slight mirrorslap is visible if one looks closely, (haven't used lock-up) im thinking about the NN5 when it is avail...

i upgraded from D70>D200>D300, i missed the D70s light weight, built in remote (even though infra red sucks) when i got the D200, which has many improvements over D70

D300 has a MUCH nicer LCD, built in dust removal thing (it helps), but loses dedicated bkt button sad

hard to put my finger on it exactly, but my D70 & D300 SEEM sharper than my D200 ymmv

all in all, i much prefer the D300 to the D200, id say hold out for that...

But the D70s does have mirror lock-up! See page 162 of your manual: "Highlight Mirror lock-up in the
setup menu ( 155) and press the multi selector
to the right. Press the multi selector up or down
to highlight an option, then press to the right to
make a selection."

On the D200 & D300, with custom shooting settings, is it possible to have a setting for shooting panos; i.e. manual exposure, RAW, bracketing, etc.? Or can the function button be defined inside a custom shooting mode to be for setting bracketing? The pluses of multiple bracketing vs. only one over and under make the 300 very desirable.

both D200 & D300 bracket 2-9 frames, up to 1 stop apart

on D300, the function button is the default method for accessing bracketing modes, one might be able to assign it to another button, (haven't tried) but i preferred the D200's dedicated BKT button -

i believe (not sure) you can set everything you mentioned except for bracketing via shooting banks, but i never ended up using the shooting banks as much as i had imagined on D200 or D300, as it is still possible to accidentally change a banks settings, so you still need to double check anyway...

i think the main thing i would like to see as an option somewhere, is "lock lens on infinity", either in camera or an updated nikkor 10.5mm with a little "infinity lock" switch...

and bring back the BKT button on D400 !
