Making a DVD of panos

Hi Guys,
I've had a request from one of my clients which I have no idea to tackle! Basically, I created some 360° (by the way, this one is for free, if you hold Alt key and type 0176, you get the ° symbol!) I'll try again: Bascially, I created 360° tours of 6 of his limousines for his website in preparation for the annual limousine show here in the UK, called Drive 08. He's asked me to produce a DVD that he can copy and hand out free of charge to visitors to his stall at the show, and to have playing on a plasma-screen at his exhibition. Now this is a great marketing opportunity for me, because I can put my contact details in the nadir, and he plans to produce and hand out 5000 DVD's
This DVD should play the 6 panos, autorotate, and when it reaches the last one, loop back to the start. I have a feeling the loop requirement wont be possible, unless you turn repeat on on the DVD player. But if it doesn’t loop, that’s not the end of the world. If possible, I would like to add still images as well, and have each pano as a "track" so you can skip through the Limos.
Is this possible, or am I hoping for too much!?

Gus There are several threads at FPP Forum about this. Also flashpanos.com has a tutorial on it.
The problem might be to get it work from the DVD as the security restrictions in Flash is very high.
I believe that has also been discussed. Another way would be to do it in DevalVR which has an easy way to do a panoramic slideshow. And at last you could use Photo2movie www.lqgraphics.com (only for Mac users) and make a Quicktime movie of it all. Pano2Movie for PC pano2movie.com/
I did that for a special show for my University Tour.

Ask Ian I assume he has made some himself. Why not download it and make one. It is fully functional in 30 days
I only done some in my Photo2movie.

Gus I sent another VR photographer in the direction of Pano2Movie to do the same thing for a Home Builders show.
Once he made the QT Video clips of the separate rooms in the house with Pano2Movie I suggested he use QuickTime Pro to make them into one video and he could put a still photo of the exterior of the appropriate house in between each set.
He saved it 2 ways, 1) as a QuckTime file for playback from a computer with the QuickTime Player set at "Loop" to play the whole video over and over again.
2) He tried to output it to a DVD format that a Television DVD player could use but had problems. He went to one of the places that convert movie film to DVD and they fixed it while he waited. He just set the DVD player to Repeat or Loop the DVD and it played constantly at the trade show with no problem.
If you happen to have RealViz Sticher Unlimited, it will output to both .mov and .avi video formats. The .avi format is usable with almost any video editing software including the Windows Movie Maker that comes free with WIndows XP.
Good luck Doug Aurand

Gus The problem with converting the virtual images is that they will only "play" what you output as video from either Pano2Movie or RealViz Stitcher Unlimited. Some one playing the DVD won't be able to navigate down to the tripod cap and see your name.
I've got a Macromedia/Adobe Director W3D Player that works from a CD on a computer but not from a TV DVD player.
The .w3d files are fully interactive like QuickTime and play natively in a Director Projector with no additional software needed.
When I had the "player" made we were going to have it "Play All" but it was getting too complicated, expensive and was taking too long, so I settled for the user needing to use just a "Next" button which we had anyway, with no "Play All" feature. The Director developer and I decide to add that later when I had more money to spend.

Hi Doug, Thats a good point! They wont be able to see my details int he nadir, unless I make the movie hover there for a say 10 seconds
Instead, I think I will make a little splash screen for the intro with my details, something like "these movies were created by blahblahblah" with my logo and contact details. And a business card dopped into the Cd case
Lastly, if all else fails, I will just make a standalone CD that can be played back on PC,for the distribution. I think more people use their PC's than their DVD players anyway! gus

Hi, I was always about to ask this, because it was mentioned in other topics. In the DVD of the movie "Gangs of New York" you can watch a "Backstage" or "Making of" where M.Scorsese walks around the different sets with his art director. In every set you have the opportunity to choose an option, which will take you to a 360º panorama with interactivity thru the remote control cursors. Knowing how this is done will help you and all of us. Regards, Martin

gus If you use a still photo of the outside of each limo to go from one video clip to another, you could put a "Virtual Images and Video created by Gus" somewhere in the still photo or end the video with a graphic that says the same thing.
Take a look at how I ended the Video Clip on this page
www.virtualalbuquerque.com/VirtualABQ/SandiaPeakT...
Learning how to produce streaming video would be a very complimentary skill to virtual photography, you'd be able to produce two "moving medias"

mskp Stick the "Gangs of New York" DVD into the DVD Player of your computer and see if you can use Windows Explorer or the equivalent on a Mac and get a clue to what they did to make the virtual images work.
I'd be curious, so would Gus

I've discussed the pros and cons of DVD player versus PC with the client and we agreed that 1) DVD - no interaction, not compatabile with all DVD players 2) DVD - more people will prefer to use a CD on their PC than on their DVD player. In fact, more people probably have PC's than DVD players! 3) DVD - fullscreen/quality on big screen issues 4) CD - fully interactive using 3D vista/tourweaver 3 5) works on all PC's, can include the Flash installer on the disc 6) CD - most importantly, we can place a link to his website and email on the tour. Lets face it, nobody is going to memorise the link from the DVD, run to the PC and type the adress in the browser..... 7) CD - interactive, the visitor can click on the limos, explore each pano ineteractively, watch slide show, and read in-depth description for each vehicle's features.
As for playing the CD on a TV at the show, I suggested just putting his laptop on the desk, or I'm sure with the newer laptops, you can output to a TV screen.
I tried pano2movie last night, it takes AGES to create a movie!
Thanks for all the replies, but I'm glad the client settled on the route that I feel more comfortable with
O yes, did I mention I can graffitti the splash page with our logo and a link to our website, and put our logo in the nadir!

It would be remiss for me not to mention that Easypano Tourweaver will output .mpg (both 1 & 2 and also PAL/NTSC) and also H2.64 .avi (.mpg4 format) these can be edited with Windows Movie Maker (add ffdshow) or other Video Studio software packages. Allowing you to combine movies/images fancy transitions, titling etc
The "movie" follows YOUR scripted goto/moveto path (known as a movie path) You set the "path" panning in any direction you like, add zoom in/zoom out move from one scene to another with transitions etc.
Playback on HDTV Widescreen with decent clarity is possible though some experimenting with settings will take some learning.
