Thumbnail generator or Catalog creator - able to see .cr2 files
Posted: 4 Mar 2008 at 12:05 GMT
Hi
I have many DVDs with images (mostly .cr2) I'm looking for a freeware able to catalog a DVD i.e. to create a structure on HDD with that content but with thumbnails instead of original images (keeping the original name..)

The search for an image is now a time consuming adventure, I can wite it myself but not for .cr2 sad

Is there such freeware (on Windows) What do you use?

I installed a couple but either don't explore all the folders structure in the given DVD either don't recognise .cr2 (Canon RAW file type) so them are usless but some are indeed cute smile

any help greatelly appreciate,
Dorin

Dorin, I did a similar search some years ago but came up with only one program that did what I wanted. That's ThumbsPlus from www.cerious.com . I'm sure it's exactly what you are looking for, but alas it isn't free.

idimager will do the trick. There is a free version also.

Thank you gentlemens,

John, ThumbsPlus no doubts seems to be a very good tool, I downloaded the trial version which doesn't recognise .cr2 but I saw that has option for adding plugins and I'm sure somehow can be setted/or it will in the future releases to open and process .cr2

Ormart, I intended to download the free (I guess the lite version) but after registering I received a download link which doesn't work, maybe becaouse I use an old e-mail client with no frills and somehow the link I received is different and look there invalid or so sad

Smooth, I guess the Irfanview will be the one smile only a little issue really not big deal, it seems to ignore the orientation data from exif for .cr2, still some check boxes are there at settings and options but has no effect if I thick/unthick them. Again not big deal though my neck will be happier if the orientation will be used at batch convertions.

Now I can compress a DVD in 21 MB or so and keep the compressed mirror on HDD for fast browse/search which is great smile

Dorin,

I downloaded 4.10 and upgraded the "plug-in" pack also. It seems to be quite good. Maybe if you point out the rotation issue with the developer they might make adjustments to it? Anyway, for free it is a great well supported program. Has been for many, many years.

Dorin, I used the excellent Irfanview long before I got Thumbsplus Pro (which does have a RAW camera plugin). What I particularly wanted was to be able to take a CD/DVD with images in directory structures and obtain a complete print of thumbnails divided into folders with appropriate section headings. At that time, Irfanview did not process subfolders and would only produce one contact sheet at a time. It is now a lot more flexible, but still can't do what I would want. OTOH it's free!

Did you try the ARCSOFT Plugin for Windows ??
It supoosed to make Windows display the CR2 files natively.

Maybee other viewers can use this one too.

www.arcsoft.com/products/rawviewer/

It´s free - so why not try it out.
