Manfrotto 190XB or other tripod for NN3

I am considering the purchase of a NN3 and require a suitable tripod.
Has anybody good or bad experience with the 190XB?
I need something light and I understand that the tripod should have a ball head for the NN3. Is there anything else to consider?

I have this exact same tripod and I have to say with my limited knowledge on tripods I just LOVE this one, is not that light, but its not heavy and its sturdy, can't go wrong

Hi Not many threads where I'm able to post any very enlightening information - and this one's no exception. However I have a 190x (not sure when the b applies)and it is well made. It has the extension column that can be rotated out to 90 deg - which might be useful for nadir shots if counterbalanced, I haven't tried this (IMHO an accident waiting to happen!)
I have added a Manfrotto 338 precision levelling plate to mine. With a standard adjustable panhead plus an NN3 the whole thing was far too flexible with a D200 on top. This plate cost as much again as the tripod and I wasn't happy buying it - but it works well, even if it's a little stiff to adjust.
In retrospect I'm happy with the tripod except when carrying it. I'd like a carbon tripod but for spherical pans the weight of the 190 is probably advantageous. The cam-type locking levers work well unless you get mud on them at which point they become very sticky indeed.
I have reservations about the NN3 but have nothing yet to compare it with. It's a bit hard to adjust the position of the camera on the upper arm (sticky rubber contact plate) and just a little under engineered but compact and light. Lots of bits to lose too. If I can ever justify it I'll buy something more substantial and keep the NN3 for long hikes (on a carbon tripod!)Nb. I'm posting another thread with some queries about about np adjustment.

I use a Manfrotto 055 ProB it is very similar to the 190 but bigger and heavier. I do not use any heads between the tripod and the NN3 ( give a firmer mount) .... It is actually quicker to level with out... I just use the leg adjustments. (try it you may be amazed)
when I don't want to carry the weight I take pans hand held.

I use older version 190PROB with NN3 and its work very well. Enough stable and not to heavy. Jan

I bought a levelling plate from Fanotec (the manufacturer of the NN3). That's much cheaper and just as easy to use.

Using a Manfrotto #222 Pistol Grip Leveler is far easier and faster to use over the thumb-wheel levelers.
But the greatest advantage is that the footprint in the nadir is far smaller.
There are also some cheaper Chinese copies of this design that in my experience also work just as well.

Why do I always hear about cheaper options too late...? But the Pistol Grip above is pretty tall. I was using the Mag Alloy panhead previously; that plus the quick release made for a very unstable rig with a D200/NN3 on top. It seems that NN are releasing a very inexpensive (in the USA, anyway) thumbwheel leveller shortly.
