I can't see diddly squat in the LCD when I'm outside...

Either the light reflecting off my face and clothes are reflected in the LCD or the general ambient light washes it out. I can barely make out some of the control information like f-stop and shutter speed -- sometimes.
I really can't understand why LCD's are even put on the back of the camera. They should be in a separate device with it's own battery and WiFi or BlueTooth connection to the camera to control settings. Then the LCD could be big enough to see and you could tilt it away from the light.
Just dumb, rigid thinking to put the LCD on the back of all cameras. Some cameras -- sure. The drooling baby picture cameras. And maybe for the DSLR group so you can review the shot you made that you framed and focused through the optical viewfinder. But there is clearly a need for a camera with a detachable LCD and built in remote control.
How do you guys handle the light on the LCD problem? I'm thinking about wearing a black turtle neck and then lifting it over my head and covering the camera like in the old, old days with a shroud....

hehe, I actually haven't had too many issues with the LCD, what camera are you using? Perhaps look at upping the brightness on the LCD if you haven't already. It's usually in the menu somewhere... Will eat slightly more battery though.
Other than that you can get clip on things which shade the screen, however I've heard they're not too effective. Perhaps do some research in to those though as I may be wrong.

A Cap has usually a shade of about 7cm so to make any shade on the screen you have to be very close. My +4 reading glasses can get me to 30 cm but if you want to see anything closer you will need 2 of them.

Thank you Hans, now I got it, I guess wearing a sombrero could be out of style in some places but surely will have benefit of shading the lens too, which is good in some cases. I fact considerring that the light rays from the sun are parallel (due to its huge distance from Earth) anything at the size of LCD and some extra will cover the LCD regardless of distance from LCD, but the problem is the automatic aperture of human eye, maybe some dark sun glasses, like those of police officers or such, they weare those also to be able to see when the light condition are changed like tunnel or entering in a room from bright outside. So shadow with your hand and with one finger lift the sun glasses .. maybe that work do it so when you're looking through viewfinder too, for a brighter one

Did anyone use some portable small LCD TV with batery? like
tinyurl.com/3a69vj
It has A/V input has battery and can be "transformed" in a remote with LCD (by simply attach the remote on it if not else) then you have two cables instead of one
My camera Canon 350D has video out and so other cameras has too and don't look too expensive if it helps

That would be good -- but it cost as much as my camera cost me on eBay.
I'm going to try one of those Delkin shady things...
And I wear a hat -- doesn't work for that.

Bring a dark cloth. In my View camera days I never left home without one. Any 3' x3' piece of dark cloth to throw over your head & camera will work. I frequently use my coat or windbreaker.

I got one of those Delkin LCD shades. Works marginally better. I can see squat now but still no diddly...

Way back when I was shooting Large Format (film), I used a hood. Basically a piece of cloth to block the sun. I have used it on my digital as well. A small piece of gaffers (not duct tape) holds it in place and it's easily removed. Just don't worry what people around you think!
