Request for testing new DevalVR with full Hardware Acceleration

Hi all,
After a lot of time searching some bugs in the new version of the viewer, I finally fixed it and uploaded a new BETA version. This version is full hardware accelerated, and this mode will be always the default mode. The viewer only will change to "software engine" if the graphic card installed in the system does not have enough video memory to load all images. Anyway, at this moment, almost all high-quality QTVR files on Internet can be seen with only 32MB of video memory.
DevalVR uses some special functions to load the images into video memory while it's loading (on the fly). For this reason the viewer does not need any time to prepare the images after loading them. But this special mode of working could not be totally compatible with all video cards. For this reason I prepared this BETA version to test it before to add this feature in the "official" plugin. You can test this new version and tell me if you find any problem. The most important change with the current official version is that this BETA works with Hardware acceleration from while the images are loading and it works with script files and other contents.
IMPORTANT: If you want to test this version, close all programs before to test the plugin or player. It uses a special way to access to the video memory and some systems might become unstable and could present a Blue Screen of Death ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Screen_of_Death ) and a reset. Please be careful
Current BETA version 0.5.6.1
Browser plugin BETA (IE, Firefox and Opera): www.devalvr.com/install/beta (Enter this link with IE to download IE installer, or with Firefox to download Firefox installer)
Standalone player BETA: www.devalvr.com/install/beta/playerUnicode.zip
Screensaver BETA: www.devalvr.com/install/beta/screensaver.zip
If you have any problem with this new version of the plugin, please, install latest stable version here: www.devalvr.com/install
You can test the viewer with your files or with any DevalVR content. These are some example pages:
www.devalvr.com/paginas/soporte/fullvideo.html (Embedded Flash video into panorama) www.devalvr.com/paginas/soporte/fullinterface.html (Custom interface) www.devalvr.com/panos/timelapse/index.html (Timelapse example) www.devalvr.com/paginas/soporte/transitions/index... (Blending effects)
If you have any problem, please answer this thread or write in devalvr forum.
Thank you very much for your support!
PS: The next step is to translate my HW Accel DirectX functions to OpenGL functions. OpenGL is a multi-platform API

Fiero
For testing purposes, I tried it on a RAGE 128PRO 2, AGP 4X/PCI, 16MB
Worked fine but slow.

Opened and worked OK .mov up to 5000x5000 cubic faces, on this last size worked ok (smooth as usual) if I zoom in a bit, if I zoom out is a bit slow.
The progress bar has some cosmetic issue, I've tested with all my old content with embedded flash and worked ok.
I've tried to open 18000x9000 tif equirectangular and after a while progress bar show no progress and I don't know if is suppose to open tiffs of such size on 64MB VRAM at this stage, so I give up.
Tested on Geforce 4 MX 4000 64MB VRAM, Win 2000
good work!

fiero, I didn't want to install any more plugins for a long time, but once I intalled DevalVR I think it is very very good work!
I have Matrox Parhelia APVe (128MB) - all uyopur samples work generally well, the first one has the same errors like Oender discribed, the rest are quite nice and smooth, the IE window gets dark when I press the other pano in the 4th example, and I don't like when the toolbar (bottom left) disapears whn I click the photo to move it (3rd example)
tested on IE

Hi!
Thank you to all for your tests, I will work in all these issues...
They are good news that there isn't a big error in the viewer. I think this is the only HW viewer that shows the images while they are loading. For this reason I wanted to test this method with different video cards.
Thank you all!

Hola Fiero,
I finished testing the new beta v0.5.6.3
CONTROL BAR
Minor cosmetics artifacts are noticeable after the installation. This animated gif shows the differences between 0.5.5.6 and 0.5.6.3 versions
98% = plug-in version 0.5.5.6 76% = beta version 0.5.6.3
LOADING AND PERFORMANCE
Click on devalVR link…
Time from click to loading preview: 17.37 seconds (White screen).
(Opera V9.21)
(Deval loading bar and low res preview appears after this lap of time).
Very fast in FireFox v2.0.0.4 (1-3 seconds)
Note: Beta version do not tested in internet explorer 7
Curious issue: Under internet explorer 7 the progress bar (loading) and control buttons shows perfect but just only when davalVR is downloading the pano, after the panorama has finished loading the control bar changes to this corrupted one:
Thats all for now, lets see the others results!
Greetings Oender
In Spanish: Fiero.
Saludos.

Hi Oender,
Thank you for the test. I see the same delay time in Zbooy's page. But this delay is a issue in the server, not in the plugin. I will write to Zbooy about this issue.
What happends if you test Adrey's pages? See this page: pano.1drey.com/deval_intro.html
These cosmetic artifacts are a headache, I will seach another solution...
Thank you!

Hi fiero,
With the Adrey's panos all load fast. 2-5 seconds. About the tool bar, what about embeded some vector based toolbar (a little swf file with the same look?)
Adios!

Hi Oender, To show 2D images with a 3D graphic card it's necessary to create 2 triangles to compose a rectangle with 4 vertices. The image is the "skin" of these 2 triangles. The problem is that, in some graphic cards, any of these 4 vertices move one or two pixels, for this reason the image appears distorted.
I uploaded a new beta version 0,5,6,4. Can you see any difference with previous versions?

Hi, I think this might be appropriate to post here.
If you you want to test DevalVR performance with a spherical pano 12,566 x 6,283 pix, that mean a .mov with 4,000x4,000 pix cubic face, by kindly help of Fiero here is the link (Warning! is about 15 MB download)
dorin.devalvr.com/Leaf_vs_iron.html It suppose to work on QuickTime too if you don't have yet DevalVR.
