Aerial/Low Altitude Panos
Posted: 8 Apr 2007 at 4:00 GMT
Hi,

Dan and Tabb just posted their latest amazing panos taken with remote controlled model helicopters.

I've read about rigs taken from kites, hot air ballons, or helicopters. Dan's and Tabb's however were taken with remote controlled model helicopters.

I'm very much interested in doing such high elevation pano shots.

I did a search here and also on the web but was unable to find any such site or webpage that provides details on taking on such an endeavor.

Would appreciate any help on this please.

Thanks,
eagle

Hi Eagle,

I'm an aerial Photographer too, but I'm using kites (www.birdseye.be)

www.birdseye.be/panoramas/pano_dehaan/

With a kite, there are different methods for shooting panorama's. The simpliest is using one (fisheye) shot from the air to the ground and one from the ground to the sky...
see: scotthaefner.com/kap/360panos/howmade/

Another method is taking 6 (fisheye) shots with a automated rig with the camera in a down angle of app. 30°. This panoramas are far better from quality. This method is invented by Yiorgos who also post in this forum. Check his panoramas: www.vgreece.com/index.php?category=9500

I never used remote heli's. So I don't know how they do the shooting.

Greetz,

Yvan.
