Shanghai Virtual Tour
Posted: 12 Mar 2007 at 2:50 GMT
Hello Forum
I watched a program on a Chinese channel CCTV that talked about panoramics and a virtual tour website of Shanghai. I didn't get the address of the website maybe someone here knows of it. I have googled it obviously but to no avail. The particular site is different to what I have seen before. This Virtual tour had the facility of being able to move along a street and still be able to view 360 degrees at any point. I was curious to know did anybody here see the program and if so what they they thought of the technology used.

Cheers

Hello Nick
Im not sure if that was the system they used. They had four cameras mounted on top of car. All the cameras were poitioned at 90 degrees to each other and they all took a shot at the same time and took several at intervals along a street. They used software then to to stitch all the images of the street together to create a vrtour of the street that could be viewed at one time. Maybe you could say it was a tubuler(?) panoramic as opposed to a cubical/spherical.

That was the report of our company. The website is www.city8.com, and we now have maps for Beijing and Shanghai. Sorry there is only Chinese site now.

Easypano is also one department of our company, and we have two main software for panorama stitching and virtual tour presenting-Panoweaver and Tourweaver. If you are interested in virtual tours, you can visit our Easypano website to view some tour samples: www.easypano.com/virtual-tour-software/gallery-tw....

Hello roadkillron,

Our company is registered as jietusoft and based in China. Both City8 and Easypano are the divisions of jietusoft. City8 privides Chinese customers of panoramic maps services of large Chinese cities, and Easypano offers PW and TW mainly to non-Chinese-speaking customers. Our business is mainly in panorama field.

I was hoping you offered 360 video panos like at the website quoted above, Where you drive down the street and can look around the video - up - down - and backwards. Maybe you guys can work some overtime and hook us up!

It will take some time to develop English sites for these Chinese cities. We plan to complete this kind of site for more than 20 cities in these two years, and we currently have Peking and Shanghai sites. bj.city8.com/ is the site for Peking.
