Commercial gigapan head

A few researchers at Carnegie Melon are going to be releasing an inexpensive (supposedly ~$200 US) gigapixel panoramic head in March.
They're even talking about one that will do timelapse, and software that would allow you to zoom into a gigapixel image, find something say a birds nest, and then go back in time to watch it being built.

I signed up for their email after seeing this post when you originally posted it, and have just today received an email from them. It seems that it is only designed for compact cameras, probably not of interest to me at the moment.

Here are my shots (the gigapan ones start September 10th, when I received my beta unit)

The Wellington Beach shot got all wonky because of the trees, when it stitched (though the gigapan stitcher)
