G’day from Oz,
I just thought I would share my thoughts on a reasonably new program for packaging your tours to potential clients. I tried a number of other products before settling on ‘3DVista – Show 2’ www.3dvista.com/ I am really impressed with the features it offers. In particular you can choose between; Java, ActiveX, Flash, or Executables for Email or CD. It has interactive Map/Floorplan capabilities and has an intuitive easy to follow interface. Their support has been fantastic.
Sorry if it sounds too much like a sales pitch. Mainly, I feel I need to give back a little for all the great info and ideas I get by reading this forum. I do plan to set up as a reseller but haven’t quite got there yet.
Here is a job I have just completed in the three online versions. From what I understand Flash is the most compatible format. Unfortunately, the quality is not quite as good as the Java and ActiveX (hopefully will improve with time). I am reluctant to offer all versions to avoid confusing the user. I feel I may have to use Flash to avoid downloads and compatibility issues.
www.trueview.com.au/Davey/ActiveX/index.htm www.trueview.com.au/Davey/Java/index.htm www.trueview.com.au/Davey/Flash/index.htm
I would really appreciate your opinions on this issue and the overall look of the ‘Show’.
Regards,
Morten

Hi Morten
I have been a user of 3Dvista products now for over two years in fact it was one of the first VR software packages I bought 3DVista Ent version 1.xxx The company has always offered first class support and have very cost effective upgrade policy for their users.
Over the last 12 Month the staff at 3Dvista have done wonders with the software and really taken show to a new level in our kind of software. Show 2 along with 3Dvista Stitcher Version 3 and floorplan version 1, now offers a very serious threat to Easypano’ software suite.
The team at 3Dvista have defiantly been listening to their users and addressed all the requirements resulting in a much better product range, if you had been using the software as long as I have you would know just how much hard work these guys have put in to there products.
My advise to all on this forum (invest n these people your money will not be wasted) Add to the above the 3Dvista hosting package that total integrates with all their products, show2 and publisher makes the software from 3Dvista a one stop solution in being able to offer your clients a wide range of output options with more interactive features then any other software currently on the market.
If users use 3Dvista hosting then the output options used by their programs are a extremely useful feature because the program automatically presents the viewer with a range of your chosen outputs view the Virtual tour in. If you do not sign up for the hosting package then this feature is still a great feature as it quickly present you with a quick way of producing different plug in versions to quickly FTP up to your own hosting site.
On the flip side it is fair to say that programs lke Easypano tourweaver presents their users with a quicker working workflow for producing a quality VR, but I feel sure that it will not be long before 3Dvista fully integrate all of there 4 flagship programs in to one complete solution.
Easypanos tourweaver is now looking a bit of a jack of all trades (although a very good one) and a master of none where the opposite can now be said about 3DVista. I for one still and will continue to use both of these company’s products and have always said that both have their own set of strengths and weaknesses, but after their resent version release I am starting the see a bigger gap being made by 3Dvista (who knows how easypano will respond lets see) By vote goes to 3Dvista Fantastic programs, first class support and best value for money on the market for more information visit www.3dvista.com
Best Regards Jonpaul

G'day Kyle,
Yes, I used 3DVista ‘Skin Editor’ and ‘Show 2’ to make this. The Floorplan is just a scanned copy (jpg) from which I removed all unnecessary detail.
Here is a sample using the 3DVista Floorplan Maker;
www.trueview.com.au/ActiveX/trueviewactivexdemo.h...
I have not purchased this software yet so it has the demo markings on it. It gives a really professional looking finish but the interface is still a little time consuming for me. If I get a job needing this sort of Floorlpan I will probably purchase it (very time consuming work though).
I think I need to work on making these Skins a bit cleaner and simpler. I tend to get carried away with all the features.
Cheers,
Morten

I have the 3dvista package, but not floorplan i also have tried the demo, but do not really see any reason to need a 3d floor plan, have have just used the basic skins that come with the app, i did not realize you could put a radar on the map, does that take long?
thanks

Kyle,
The radar feature is really simple. When you add a pano there is an option to add the radar. It is quite intuitive and allows you to line up the pan with your Floorplan/Map.

Well when using firefox on windows xp the activex obviously didn't work. The flash didn't work but it offered no indication why it just gave a blank screen. The java was ok. Looks nice and slick. Perhaps a bit busy and strange to have all that for just two panoramas but I guess its just a practice
Tried internet explorer. Activex gave the standard warning and then also asked if I wanted to install 3dvista software which would scare the life out of most people. Also when I clicked on maximise the panorama there doesn't seem to be any way to get back from the maximized screen?
Flash did work and looked fine. Though I wonder how many people have upgraded to version 8 yet. Nice to see a full spherical in flash.
Java seemed fine. Did find a button in bottom left corner to leave maximised images but only if I held the mouse there. How would I know to do this?
Anyway in general seems nice. I sound critical but all approaches have their bugs. Personally I think wrapping things in skins causes more the plain html and a basic pano inserted but if this way is easier for you I'm sure it will work most of the time. Apart from the irritating maximise bug and I wouldn't bother with active x more trouble than its worth it looks like.

G’day zxcvbnm,
Firstly, thanks for your in depth comments. I agree that I should try to make these look less ‘busy’. My problem is that the client and I want to advertise, and there needs to be some instruction. As you commented - the instructions (i.e. regarding minimising) are still not clear. I agree that the ‘minimise’ button should not be hidden. When I look at it perhaps there is too much instruction!
Secondly, I also prefer the plain html. My website uses ‘Immervison’ for Java;
www.trueview.com.au/samples/watermans/watermansja...
and ‘QuickTime’ (my favourite);
www.trueview.com.au/tour-hyatt-qt-full.html
However, the problem still remains regarding downloads (20Mb! for QuickTime and 7Mb for Java).
The strength of 3DVista for me is that it allows me to show everything (including an interactive Floorplan or Map) in the one window. Real Estate agents in particular like this feature.
Thanks again for your thoughts.
Regards,
Morten

Hi Guys,
Just a quick email to let you know that we have just released the Tutorial for SHOW 2. You can download it from our website www.3dvista.com (support area -> tutorials)
You can find all the information about how to add/use the radar and other advanced features.
For those who have SHOW already installed there is an automatic update that will install the tutorial on their computers.

G'day Jose,
Good to see you on the forums again. The tutorials look very comprehensive and well laid out.
You may have read the comments about users not knowing how to return from the 'maximised' view. Is this something you might look at resolving? Are there any other Show 2 updates scheduled for the near future?
I have a request for the maximise button to open a new window with a ‘fit to screen’ ‘high resolution’ pano. Is this a possibility for a future update. I strongly believe in the 'fully immersive' 'full screen' experience to show off our panoramas.
Thanks for a great product and excellent support.
Regards,
Morten
