Object Photo Software ?

Any input on the best Object Photo Software?
I've looked at VR Worx's, tried the demo, seems to work OK, can't find a demo of PhotoVista Object - but did not like their old demo of thier panorama software - seemed very buggy and the small sized screen limit seemed abit limited.
Any other contenders?
And any one have any tips on shooting object photos, like lights in fixed position or moving with camera - I'm shooting some quite large objects, so I'm moving the camera around the object instead of using a turntable.

Robert,
I think that Pano2QTVR is the best tool both for panos and objects - far more convinient than VRWORX on my taste.
Just in the case you don't know where to get it - www.pano2qtvr.com

Hey Guys,
I awhile ago i looked into this, i likes the VR WORX, however i recently had another quick look into it.
I found anything3d.com to be a really simple and very effective, and lets face it, the price is pretty good too.
Here is an example of one that i did, its been compressed down to make it and easy size.

Hope it helps Cheers Lach

That’s interesting. Are the intermediate projections between each ‘exposure’ interpolated or must you take one picture for each? I noticed I could only advance the view of the footswitch, impressive though it was, in jerks – same for the specs. Was each ‘jerk’ a separate image? Was the background removed within the Object VR program, or was that a job for Photoshop? Is it possible to have other views? From further up and above the object?
These are serious questions.
The following page isn't - but don't let that prejudice your answer.

anything3d creates/provides a mask that removes the background. Check out their tutorial sample.
Jerkiness is a function of the number of shots taken ... just like animation... the more shots you take, the less jerkiness you see.

Thanks R Eagle, I took a look at Anything3D's promotional video; very nice, but I think I can do almost as well - and many dollars cheaper - with my exsisting software. Please take a look at following page, and the message therein, and keep in mind that I would use more even lighting and a matt white paper background when I get serious. I could possibly get some work animating architectual models. Mark

Good job mark.
Lots of software of course out there to do the same thing and everyone of them have their pros and cons over the other products.

I used a combination of Photoshop and Anything 3D to remove the background. I simply made a photoshop action to crop and select colour ranges and make it all white.
I recommend for the most effecient and effective way of creating Object movies is in the lighting and set-up, i had te benefit of prefect day outside, and used the hot-shoed flash to remove excess shadows.
The sunglasses were created with the most poor of quality control, if you look carefully one of the arms starts to fold in. I just wanted to quickly take some pics to test out this software. This one was created using a cd spindal in which i sat a flat surface to hold the sunglasses. Then rotated and photographer, rotated and so on.
If you look on ebay, you can find light cubes which are great for photography and aids in eliminating shadows and inconsistent lighting however i am sure you can modify one to suit a turntable or something. (cgi.ebay.com.au/48-Photo-Light-Soft-Cube-Box-Phot...) This is an example, it is a little $$$ but you get the idea

Bright blue or green background + PS Plugin Knockout (or similar) lets remove background even in batch mode.
White or gray background much harder to eliminate.

Komodo the dragon from panorama factory has been around for at least 5 years as an example. www.panoramafactory.com/komodo.html
now I look at it again though it only works really well in internet explorer. All done with javascript, no plugins.

Robert has opened a really interesting subject, and I at first, jokingly, offered up an animated GIF I made a week ago. Then I realized this was no joke and has some really useful application. And I asked how to get rid of the disturbing background. I got useful responses from many. (Thanks Eagle R, Lach, Andrey, and zxcvbnm) I have to try all your suggestions – and then I will try to get back to you guys with my results – and no doubt another bunch of questions, probably with a new thread, if this one goes cold by then. What is the preferred term for this kind of object photography. Lastly, Panorama Factory’s example of a komodo dragon object VR is quite interesting and nicely stearable. I think ImmerVision has something like it too. If anyone has an example of their XML and associated HTML pages that they don’t mind my stealing , I will be most grateful. If you don't want to post it here, please e-mail me. See you later - Mark
