autopano ptgui plugin what does it do?

I was reading about the free autopano plugin for ptgui.
What is the difference/advantage of using it compared to just pressing the generate control points button in ptgui?
Trying to decide if its worth investigating, thanks.

I confess I haven't done any detailed comparison tests, but FWIW, my impression is that the PTGui control point assignment feature performs about as well as the Autopano plugin, and maybe gives a better spread of the points over the seam area. Both generate the occasional badly placed point; I wouldn't like to say which was better in this respect.

i use autopano and sometimes it finds new control points and sometimes not...i think with the latest version, 5.5, autopano might be unnessary....but i could be wrong....

Thanks for that. I guess I will give it a miss then. Just checking I wasn't missing anything exciting

I try the built-in generator first. If the results are bad, I'll try autopano. If the results are still bad, I'll use both. The built in one works fine most of the time (I did a multi-row, 80+ shot pano in under 10 clicks with the built-in generator - no manual point matching work at all!)
