stitch software for fisyeye lens
Posted: 3 Aug 2004 at 9:31 GMT
I have a Nikon fisheye lens FC-E8.

I have spent ages trying to find a stitcher to stich the images together and can only find easypano but the price is a put off.

I have also tried the photoshop panotools plugin but can`t seem to get it to work.

Can someone point me in the direction of a stiching tool that suports fisheye?

Thanks

I don't have any experience with this program, but there's a review of PhotoVista here on this site that might shed some light...

Sounds like you want to stitch circular fisheye images. However, on my CoolPix 990 there's a "fisheye mode 2" that does full-frame mode with the FC-E8 (180 degrees diagonally) and this stitches really well with PanaVue Image Assembler.

Just thought I'd mention it in case it's of interest smile

Hi James/all,

In your response I see you mentioned that you have a Nikon with fisheye lens where you can set to full frame.

I have just purchased a Nikon E5400 coolpix and a FC-E9 fisheye lens and adaptor - I have only managed to determine that this combination will allow me one setting for the fisheye lense (circular) - I am trying to find out if anyone can give me advice on using my equipment at a full-frame view and how to do so.

Next - once having achieved this what is the best software for the stitching etc.

If someone has used the same equipment with the default settings for the circular fisheye and had success - I would kile to hear how you did it anyway!

Regards,

Brent.

Brent,

Some but not all the CoolPix cameras have a "fisheye mode 2" option. On my CoolPix 990 it is available only in 'P' mode (not fully auto) and I have to go through the menus to select it.

You can achieve the same thing by not telling the camera that there is a lens adaptor attached, and use the main lens zoom to zoom in. When you do this you will start to lose the edges of the fisheye image and so eventually you will get a full frame fisheye. However doing this manually like this is imprecise so the focal length/FOV you will achieve will vary from panorama to panorama.

However, I don't know all of the CoolPix range, so before trying to manually zoom please look carefully at how the adaptor fits your camera and make sure that zooming won't cause one lens to hit (and scratch) the other.

Too bad the site is all German and I am assuming the software is too since they don't offer an English version of their site?

If you were looking closely at the site, you should noticed that on top, next to the site's logo, is a language dropdown, and there is the english option. Also, the screenshots of the software are in english, so I suppose they are offering an english version of the software too.
Anyway, I'll download the trial to see for myself! wink

Later edit: I'm assuming that you're referring to this site: www.tshsoft.de/panoramastudio/ wink
