Java Viewer
Posted: 22 Sep 2005 at 10:36 GMT
Hello folks, I need some feedback please. After having several people point out to me that I should try the Immervision Java Player, I did.
www.360michigan.net/dcruise05.htm
If you folks could take a look and let me know what you think.
1.Did they download and start in a timely manner?
2.Do they pan smoothly?
3.Did anyone get the dreaded java lockup?
These panoramas were converted directly from quicktime using the Immervision software.
Thanks

Hi Mark,

they all looked very good. Panning was smooth and the images bright and sharp.

Perhaps a bit slow to load.
I wonder if you have done some tests on file size and found the optimum.

A lot of us are trying to find an alternative to Java or Quicktime.
At (so far) 32mb Quicktime is starting to smell like a rancid, maggott infested pile of rotting dog turds. But apart from that, it's great!

Hi Mark,

All loaded fine, though a little slow. But seeing as the G2 Java Viewer allows you to view fullscreen it was acceptable. I would suggest that if you are going for enough quality for full screen in file size then you might as well make them pop full screen from the beginning as a Lots of people will miss the slide out options. Also your default FOV setting is out when compared to your Quicktime versions.

Also noticed some fairly obvious stitching errors. But the colours are nice and the sharpness was fine.

I agree the G2 Viewer is most likely the way to go in the future. But not until you can modify the "splash screen" and remove or replace the Immervision advertisement/logo.

Mark,

You are using the old applet! - this is because the VR creator has not been updated.

The new on loads better and the mouse is more responsive and less jumpy.

you will need to change it to PurePlayer.jar
