Panoramic 360 tours - Startup - Mirrorless Sony NEX-7 and Weifeng EI-900H

Hello to all,
I have bought the Weifeng EI-900H Pantoscopic Head ( www.ebay.com/itm/EI900H-EI-900H-pantoscopic-head-... )

I have the Sony NEX-7 a 24mp mirrorless camera with 16mm lens and 12mm converter.
Please help me out and tell me what do i have to buy more to make perfect tours with my camera and pantoscopic head.
Is PtGui the best software for stitching ? What software should i use to make the tours ( mapping, active area settings ), is KRPano good ?

I didn-t find any topics about mirrorless Sony NEX-7 with a EI900H head, so that-s why i crated this topic. Please do not flame and answer a newbie friend smile

THank you all!

The Weifeng EI-900H Pantoscopic Head is a Chinese "Rip-Off" of the real AGNOS MrotatorTCSshort Panohead See: www.agnos.com/prodotti.htm?v_lingua=ENG&v_iss_web.... The EI-900H works OK but the rotator is inferior.

PTGui or Autopano Pro/Giga are your best stitching options.
For making tours you have many options that are worthy of testing the trials.

Pano2VR www.gardengnomesoftware.com
Flashificator www.flashificator.com
Panotour Pro www.kolor.com
Tourweaver www.easypano.com

You should test them all and make your own decision on what suits you best. Prices vary on first impression but the reality is all cost pretty much the same in the end "if" you take up all the options.

Thank you very much for your fast reply !
Do you know anything about using NEX cameras for panoramas ? Do you have any experience with this ?

What are the best lens for this camera to take 360 tours?

Sony VCLECF1 Fisheye Conversion Lens
Rokinon 8mm F2.8
Samyang 8mm f/2.8 UMC Fisheye

I use the NEX c3 with the Sony fisheye converter. Works pretty good for the price. The Samyang 8mm 2.8f fisheye is a better lens.

The most important thing is to make sure the camera is set at the no parallax point. There are tutorial around that show you how to do that.

Then the rest is just experimenting until you find your own shooting style. Don't worry about mistakes. The more mistakes you make, the faster you learn.

I use a NEX-5 with a FC-E9 lens, thanks to Smooth helping me during an upgrade of equipment. I wish I would have upgraded my Pano head also, but I think once you get your lens you will be happy with what that camera can do.

How did you fit the FC-E9 on the NEX E-mount? Could you post some individual images? Maybe a full size tiff. Just post a link, not the image. I'm very interested in how that combo works together.

The image out of the fc-e8 and fc-e9 is poor at best when compared to a lens designed to fit on a DSLR camera.

Here is a picture of the Sigma 8mm mounted to the NEX camera.

Here is a pano sample shot with this monopod rig.

I posted images of and comments on the FC-E8 and FC-E9 fitted up in this thread. www.panoguide.com/forums/qna/9130/?page=4

The images quality is poor in comparison to DSLR lenses as Dennis mentioned. But if it is a lens you already have and are looking to upgrade the camera only on a limited budget, it will proved superior images to that from any of the original Coolpix cameras originally designed for these lenses.

It's late here, Ill post up some stuff in a new thread tomorrow for you.
Until then...
How did you fit the FC-E9 on the NEX E-mount?

I'm not using the NEX E-mount directly, I purchased an adapter ring that goes from the threads on the 16mm pancake or the 18-55mm lens to the threads on FC-E9. The ring is a 49mm-46mm.

nice image. i think nex + any fish-eye is really nice setup for traveling or pole shooting. makes me very tempted to buy a second hand nex camera and try. when i browsed the Sony website... there were so many nex models available. 3,5n,5r, 6,7... are nex 3 or 5 worth to buy? when i compared their spec., the different was only the video quality which didn't affect any when i only wanted to use the camera for still image shooting?

Did you cut the focus scale 'window' in the lens ring?

My ring doesn't have that feature.

That is the super-secret prototype from Fanotech. I forgot to blur out that part prior to posting the picture.

Actually I cut the same window out on all my ring mounts. I also made the "pano head" that is between the lower clamp and the monopod.
