stitching panos shot at narrow places

Hi everyone,
I want to improve my stitching capacities so I made a test shooting - a pano in a very narrow place with objects lying closed to the camera...On long term I am planing (hoping) to do interior shootings inside approx.12-16 m boats and it is very very narrow in the living rooms inside them...Here's the link to the .zip file including the .pts file, source images and the resulting .swf file..There's also one .jpeg file which shows where the shooting was made...

One stitching problem is at the corner at the ceiling and I know that this can be easily solved by shooting an extra zenith image...The stitching problem I couldn't solve is on the tablecloth...I have added CP's manually on both sides of the stitch but didn't help much...When I add more CP's the average CPD worsens which is right now only "good", which was "very good" before adding the CP's on the tablecloth...I had added other CP's manually before to get an overall good distribution...Any suggestions for improving stitching this pano are very welcome, so are other hints for improvement -what about for example DOF; FOV?...My setup is 5Dmark2, Canon 8-15 at 12 mm, Manfrotto 055xproB, NN5 with rotator and nadir adapter...
Best regards

Burak,

Your alignment is way off.

The rotator should be round.

Please read in detail the following web page:

www.easypano.com/forum/display_topic_threads.asp?...

Once you have your rotator nice and round your problems will begin to disappear.

Sometimes I will add a disk between the rotator and tripod just to make it easier to achieve a circle.

The next step is to follow John's tutorial:
www.johnhpanos.com/epcalib.htm

There is no reason you should not get an initial maximum control point distance under 3 for the very first stitch. After working on your panorama you can easily achieve maximum control point distances under 2.

I use my very small bathroom to test my calibration. I should be able to load all the images into PTGui, set crop circle (if needed), align images, delete worst control points, optimize and get a result under 3 for the very first attempt. If I get a maximum control point distance over 4 I know that I am not calibrated just yet.

My last session took about 4 hours to get my rig completely dialed in. Now panoramas just fall together with minimal effort.

Keep at it. You will get it.

Dennis thank you very much...I had to move the vertical arm 6 mm to the left to get the "round rotator"...And the stitching results are now fantastic...I always suspected that I am a little off but I didn't dare to change anything because with my previous 6 mm "offset position" when I look throu the viewfinder of the camera at -90 the center autofocus point is exactly aligned with the marked knob of the Nodal Ninja Rotator...Now when I look throu the viewfinder they are far from being "well aligned"...But it is about the OSP and not the NPP, the results show this definitely...

"I always suspected that I am a little off "

Here in America that would be the straight line in a joke.

Centering the rotator in the veiwfinder seldom sets the lower arm properly. You always need to go through the entire calibration process if you want your panoramas to stitch properly.

Nice to hear that you are getting good results.
