Indeed it is, but given recent posts and emails with Charles & company, could I please put in a request for the "how to" section of this forum to be either edited with regard to some very old and out if date information, which could be misleading to people such as Sumon, or for Tourwrist to invest or request (if spending some of their profits is not an option) some more up-to-date info?
Sorry, long sentence.

Jon,
Definitely. This is one of the trickier things we're dealing with. I completely agree that a notable amount of information is quite outdated. At the same time, it's not our role to play curator in these forums, so we have to find the right way to accomplish what you've suggested. We have some ideas, and I look forward to sharing them when we're ready to pull them off. It's a tightrope walk preserving people's words, and at the same time, the underlying purpose of PanoGuide, which is to be a living, breathing resource.
Thanks for long sentence.
Charles

How about allowing topics to remain open, until the subject has become outdated, and THEN lock it down?
The lockdown could be triggered by a senior member (known to be factual and knowledgeable by the TW team) by reporting the topic as being out of date?
And even move said outdated topics to a "dinosaur" section of the forums, where old topics and posts could be found... and preferably exclude that section from the forums search feature (which is not very helpful... to say it politely).

Sorry, Trausti, I am a little fed up with the TW team at the moment, and, given the evidence from the TW website, I am not certain that there are too many knowledgeable people there.

You are absolutely right Dennis, but I am pretty sure that you also understand that CHANGING things to something better, will prove to be the best path to go.
Only those who are hell-bent on changing nothing, will be interested in listening to no one who airs voices of improvements.
Jon does have completely valid points, and I don't see any problem in airing those publicly, and even though me and the TW leadership have gone sour in the past, I am pretty sure that they do agree that pressing for improvements is better than leaving things in a bad shape and expecting things to get better automatically... without any effort.
If you for some reason think that I have stepped over the invisible line drawn in your sand-box by telling my friend (provably so) that I agree with him, then by all means say it as you see it.
Personally I have learned a lot from those forums... but I learned 99% of everything I know, from before I got engaged in these forums..... still I learn and appreciate every piece of information I get.... and I have tried to give back something again..... but we all know how that went down south.
If you think that I stepped out of whatever glass-cage you had assigned to me and my views, you should say so at the start of your mail. You have done great service to the community, and continue to do so, and I have no pboblems in saying so.
If I get booted for saying this, then that will have to be seen in a different light - for sure.

The line that is drawn in my sandbox is when suggestions turn into anger. When participating in this forum stops being fun, time to move on. When someone objects so very strongly to what is going on here (either management style or content), my response is "If it bothers you that much and you are that upset, by all means please start your own forum and run it the way you think it should be run". We each draw that line somewhere in our own sandbox.

Jon, please show a basic level of respect to the other users, or else we will welcome your departure as you've suggested.
Trausti, your suggestions and observations are spot on. Thanks for sharing.

Dennis, thanks for a dose of level-headed pragmatism.

Trausti,
Let's see if I used the Google translator correctly:
Jeg faktisk liker å lese innleggene dine. Jeg er enig med det meste av det du skriver det meste av tiden og er uenig med noe av det du skriver noe av tiden. Du tenker "utenfor boksen". Jeg har til gode å se deg personlig fornærme noen. Disse vilkårene gjør for de gode samtalene.
You are welcome to play in my sandbox any time.

but because it is a little smug (he takes good panoramas) Yes, my panoramas are good. Just good, not excellent. Good is not good enough. I strive to be able to produce panoramas as good as Judy does. With each series I pick up some new skill or technique. I take just a bit more time in post processing these days. Even though I have a proven workflow, I will not stop trying to improve or from trying new techniques. There are just a few panoramas I have done that do not have an issue somewhere. I have never been 100% happy with anything I have done. Maybe 95% with the majority, but definately not 100%. If I only shared panoramas where I was 100% happy, there might be 3. We are often our own worst critic. I have always been my worst critic. When a newbie looks at my stuff, they think "wow". When a professional photographer looks at my stuff, they think "wow, but you have an issue here and there". That is how you get better.
If you sit back and never try to improve or to push yourself, you will fall behind. Just when you think your "stuff" does not stink, someone will come along and show you one step better.
