Hey there guys,
I know there are some of you who know just about all, so here is one that i havent found in previous forums, if i am wrong, feel free to point me!
I am wanting to make an interactive DVD which can control a virtual tour only using the standard DVD buttons. I dont know how easaily this could be done, but thought i would get peoples suggestions.
I am thinking this could be useful for the real estate company i am working for.
If you guys say its not possible, that all i need to hear Keep up the good work everyone, your work is excellent.
Cheers Lac

Hi Lac,
It has been done before, but its not easy.
The immersive effect is mimicked by playing short video clips (0-10 degs.) (10-20 degs) etc... and also (20-10)(10-0) - the DVD arrows can then be used to play the next 'forward' sequence, or the next 'backwards' sequence.
So it can be done, its quite clunky, but possible. I remember reading that one of the first harry potter DVD's has one of these DVDVR's on it, I can't guarantee that, but it may be a place to start a search.
Yours,
Stu@360precision
PS. If you do get anywhere with this, I'd love to see your output - would be really cool to do

I understand the concept, but to play only certain segments of a movie, wouldnt i have to reload a page, and start next short movie.
hmmm - i shall look into it tho, might even have to hire a harry potter dvd and check that out.
Cheers

yeah, you dont play segments of a movie, you play the whole clip, but the clip is only like 0.5 seconds or something - so you end up with about 72 small seperate films, that you navigate through.
Obviously this only works for left-right, not up down.

Earlier this year I put together a DVD with panoramas shot in Thailand. I used GoCubic to convert panoramas to QuickTime VRs, then QTVR2MOV to convert the QuickTime VR into a series of JPEG movie frames. The QuickTime Pro to take the JPEG frames and reassmble them into a conventional movie. Finally I imported the movie sequence into Photodex ProShow Gold and assembled a video sequence with other non panoramic images, created a DVD menu, added music etc.
The end result is quite fun, but the animation is far from smooth. So despite experimenting a lot with frame rates, resolution, motion blur and the like I never got the finished DVD to be professional quality. And the video I created isn't interactive (although I guess you could use fast-forward/rewind etc.
Obviously this isn't quite what you want to do, but I thought I'd describe my experience in case it helps!
