Printing & Dispatching From Website
Posted: 2 May 2012 at 19:27 GMT
I have my website (based on a photium template) nearly finished.

Are there any services whereby the orders for are taken, the photos printed and then dispatched via post/mail without me having to process it? My photos are not yet on any stock websites.

If there are such services, which are regarded as the most reliable?

I can't imagine why you would want to do that, since if you are selling photographs, you will want to keep a modicum of control on the printed photos. Using a third party might open you up to a lot of problems that won't appear if you take care of things yourself.

such as www.photoboxgallery.com/

They take a fair bit of your profit

Thanks guys!
I realise they would not be doing it for free alright. What other type of problems can arise with them? It's an option I'm just exploring at the mo.

I've never actually printed my images. Just kept digital copies. What should I look for in quality prints? I realise that's a very broad question, but are there common problems to look out for with prints?

What I'm thinking of at the mo is finding a reputable local photo printer. That way I can still check the prints before they are sent.

Fotomoto can be integrated as a service into websites. They offer C-prints (chemical prints) and pigment prints with a better quality. Check the price list at www.fotomoto.com/

Or get a printer, maybe a smaller one at the beginning and do your own printing. Together with a mat cutter you can offer finished products.

If you are serious about your business you would get a good home printer learn to calibrate it and control your picture quality, mailing your own images would add a personal touch and improve your pr,maybe when sales are going thru the roof you could employ the services of a quality provider, i am facing a similar challenge, i have a pixma and will learn to use it in conjunction with cs5, not for the faint hearted tho, thanks for the photium tip.

@kidraver: Check Qimage (only Windows) for printing, way better as printing from Photoshop.

In one way, the question is pretty much the same whether I print myself or get someone else to do it.

To ensure the best quality, what exactly do I look for in a print? Are there any common issues in prints to watch out for?

Really, what I want to know, whether I print them myself or get someone else to do it is what do I look for when it comes to making quality prints? I want to know what to look for in a printer, or what questions to ask the printing agency before I start.
