Does it look like not a very wide FOV to anyone else?

I don't see much of an improvement over the Sony 16mm kit lens + the Sony wide angle adapter. The result is the same as the Nikon 10.5 lens except that the 16mm+wide is designed by Sony for the NEX camera. What problem is this new lens solving that the stock lens+adapter from Sony does not provide? Smooth provided some sample pictures a while ago that show the quality of the lens+adapter is up to "snuff".

Again, nobody is listening at Samyang we wanted a 180° circular 8mm fisheye and NOT a diagonal fisheye.
I'm afraid it won't be on my shopping list.

Hi Smooth, Sorry if I am missing some basics, would it be possible to produce an 8mm FE on a cropped to be a circular one or shouldn't it be something like a 4.5 or 5.6mm lenses? Regards, Raghav

Hi Smooth, Sorry if I am missing some basics, would it be possible to produce an 8mm FE on a cropped to be a circular one or shouldn't it be something like a 4.5 or 5.6mm lenses? Regards, Raghav We have proven by shaving the Samyang 7.5mm MFT Fisheye that we maximise the FOV on the APS-C sensor. We don't actually want a full circle, but rather a cropped edge circle the same that it is produced when fitting say a Sigma 8mm on an APS-C/DX sized sensor (drum). I.E: 180° top to bottom and around 140° left to right (across) when the camera is in portrait orientation.
Remember the Sigma 8mm fisheye is designed based on a full size/fx 36x24mm sensor. When fitted to an APS-C sensor you retain 180° top to bottom but reduce the hfov to around 140°. Yet, it is a very proven set up.
You are right in saying a 4.5mm, 5.6mm image would give a full 180° circle on an APS-C sensor. That's 180° top to bottom and 180° left to right. Much like the Sigma 4.5mm Fisheye and the Sunex 5.6mm Superfisheye. Neither of which are optimal because you are wasting quite a large number of pixels. Only a portion of the sensor is actually being used to capture image, the rest goes to black and wasted.
The new Samyang/Rokinon 8mm f/2.8 for NEX looks to be 180° diagonal (dfov) only.

Has anybody seen a picture of this reported new lens? What size is it physically?
Apart from size and the fact it's a faster lens how is it better then say the already released Samyang 8mm f/3.5 www.photozone.de/sony-alpha-aps-c-lens-tests/665-...
It would have to have something pretty serious going for it in size or picture quality (maybe price also) to warrant it's existence. Because the image fov looks to be the same or worse/less.
It must be physical size? Show me the spec sheet!

I agree. What I would like is a cropped-180 fisheye. That's the most useful crop for use in pano photography IMHO.

I have not seen the new 8mm.
But I had the current Samyang 8mm that I put on a NEX using an adapter. It was a very unwieldy rig. It was like a small cannon (the boom boom kind). But if Samyang could somehow change the flange/back distance so that an adapter was not needed, the rig wouldn't be so awkward.
