Hi All
I have been using Sigma 8mm with Cannon 550D/T2i and wish to upgrade the lens first and then the camera. Right now i am not happy with the result of Sigma interms of glare handling and well as sharpness/color of picture. Further i am not able to zoom to a greater extend as it looses quality. The max size of panorama i can create is 10882 X 5441px. My next upgrade for camera will be 50MarkIII, but i wish to do an upgrade for lens first, a good one no constrain of budget but I need to get excellent result. Even if i need to take more pics, i dont want to compromise on quality. Can you suggest best cannon lens i should opt for 550D and then i can use for 5DMarkIII.
Thanks in Advance...

Heyo, this probably has been answered before but it's been awhile since I lurked around here. What panohead would you recommend with this camera+lens set up? (I currently use a 360Precision Atome.) I can dream though!

I use the sigma 15mm which is really amazing. Incredible sharp and very nice flare. I started working with the canon 17-40 mm, but the sigma is much much better. Here´s an example: kaleidaserver.com:8888/decero/visit-us/virtual-to... Notice that it´s done with Pano2vr, that is not good as FPP to render the image. Best,
Pablo

Not sure what your question is about. For the 350D+Sigma 8mm combo at Hotel tour I used NN R1 which is similar with your Atome.
If you ask about Canon 550D + 8-15mm, you should check at 360p site if there is a ring or such for the 8-15mm, as I know Fanotec - NodalNinja has the ring already for R1, but having the chance of greater resolution toward the 15mm end of the lens, then a L type panohead like NN3 will suit you better.
Same for Canon 5D(III) + 8-15mm when the ring type will be fine.
cheers, Dorin

I am using NN3, my point to purchase the best lens possible to take high resolution virtual tour, I can not compromise on quality of the image. sigma 8mm is not allowing me to zoom beyond limit in the final virtual tour.
Please advice.

I already sugested 8-15mm which will allow you more amount of zoom at 15 mm.
Of course you can go for the 50mm and beyond
Is this ok related to zoom ? (shot with 50mm among other lens) livepanoramas.dyndns.org/dorin/dxn_pano/PtaVictor...
cheers, Dorin

Was shoot with more than one lens, the longer was 50mm
The 8-15mm at 15mm will be somewhere in between i.e. greater than 8mm regarding the resolution, with a given camera the resolution can be computed. Keep in mind the crop camera could give greater resolution than fulframe camera it all deppends on pixell density on the sensor.
Camera used was Canon 350D, the panohead was NN 5, software PTgui among others
cheers, Dorin

Thanks, Dorin. This answered my query. I'll put these goodies on my wish list!

Dorin I was checking your pano again and I could see a great amount of zoom possible, can you please explain how it is done. I could like to have some thing of that resolution.
What lens would you suggest for my 550d
also can you check this panoramas, i wish to have a minimum of these kind of resolution. www.360saudiarabia.com/ Also can you suggest whether 550 + 8-15mm can produce such a result.
THanks

We have a Canon 500d [T1i] and a 5d AND I already checked NN. If you already have a NN R1 for the Sigma 8mm Fisheye, then Nodal Ninja said all you need to do is buy a replacement plastic ring INSERT (about $15 +/- +shipping) for the new Canon 8-15mm Fisheye. They say the 8-15mm is smaller diameter than the Sigma 8mm fisheye.
We are on hold for the next few months until Canon plans to release their 5d X or 5d Mark III. Then we sell our Canon 5d full 35mm sensor body camera
