I have been happy with my various Phottix remote releases. There is a new Phottix Aion which will do up to 7 bracketed shots, greatly expanding the range of my D7000's bracketing ability. Phottix confirmed the 7 shot bracketing ability with a D7000, but I am curious if others have used this remote. It is not a Promote, but it is also only $ 90.00.

Hi Tim, Thanks for posting this. I’ve just ordered a Phottix Aion and will report back to the forum on my experiences with it.
I’d been seriously considering the Promote Control but was balking at the price. We’ll see if the Aion does the job for HDR bracketing.
One concern will be durability. My camera and tripod once tipped over with my Phottix Plato receiver taking the blow. The receiver case was broken but after patching it up the electronics still worked.

Hans:
Thanks for the heads up. It seems that as usual if things are too good to be true... The Phottix people said 7 exposures, but there should be a huge caveat when those 7 images are so restricted!

Thank you Hans. I should have done my homework more thoroughly before ordering. I’ve asked that my order be cancelled.
The shutter speed example in the Aion manual starts a 0.5 sec., so shutter speeds faster than 1 second are possible. It doesn’t say the fastest speed that can be set.
The Aion sets bracketing in shutter speed only, doubling the shutter speed of each consecutive shot, equivalent to 1-EV bracketing. This is quite limited.
Those of us with entry-level DSLRs can cover the same dynamic range shooting RAW with three shots at 2-EV intervals.

I gave up on a cheap Promote but am happy to report that a Vello wireless remote www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/750015-REG/Vello_R... will let me do Continuous high speed bracketed exposures on my D7000. Holding the release button down will let the camera take three bracketed shots, emulating the way the camera does it. Previous Phottix remote releases would not allow this. For $ 36.00 it is hard to go wrong!

Smooth: It does look my old Cleon! That said, the fact that it will do Ch bracketed shots ( unlike my old Cleon )makes it worth the huge outlay!

Hi Tim,
I recently got a Nikon D7000 and I have the Phottix Plato. I can trigger a three-image bracketing burst with one press of the Plato.
On the D7000: 1. Set camera to Manual mode 2. Set Auto Bracketing Set to AE only 3. Set FN button to BKT (Bracketing Burst) 4. Set release mode to CH (continuous high) 5. Set bracketing to three images and EV interval desired
Set Phottix Plato to Continuous (stacked rectangles icon).
Press the Plato release once. A three-image bracketing burst is taken and the camera pauses. Move camera to next shooting position and press the Plato release again.
The essential setting here is the Bracketing Burst, which my D5000 did not have. With the D5000 set at Continuous, I could not control the number of shots taken.

Judy: With my D300 I could not get the Plato to do 3 bracketed shots on Ch with Plato either set to single or continuous. With the Vello & D7000 I can trigger Ch on just single mode. I hope you are enjoying your D7000. I find the image quality is very nice; it plays well with my Sigma 8mm!

Looks like I spoke too soon. It was working fine when I tested at slow shutter speeds, but now I find it doesn't work at high speeds.

Yes, I just get one shot.
I tested with my kit lens and the Fn button has be manually held down to get the three-shot burst. I don't how I managed to get only sets of three shots in my initial testing. Dumb luck, maybe.
