I hardly have the courage to raise my question in such an illustrious and select gathering, so please accept my humble apologies if anything I now ask has been already answered; just wondering: is there a "unifying" way of exposing panoramic images regardless the operating system? For now I can see only a small number of panos in Linux as flash movies (I heard of another distribution - Knoppix - can see java panos) and I suppose good-willing people with such an experience could advice me in this starting point for me. Seeing some players on Windows I am pleased with the performance of DevalVR, but there is nothing like this on Mac or Linux. Now I use Ubuntu but I tried in the past Slackware and Mandriva also.

After running www.getautomatix.com/ you add the missing audio and video codecs not found in stock Ubuntu installation. All your java and flash pans should work after. Have fun Dylan

Hi photo41 and welcome!
I did a test searching to find out a solution to see panos w/o installing none and that take me to Knoppix being abble with that distribution to see java panos.
Recently I redesigned my website and the panos featured there are suppose to be viewable with one of the four players found installed in the viewer's machine.
I don't have feedback from Ubuntu users though so I'm curious if you can see this pano in Ubuntu.

hello friends, I've tried automatix and didn't work (no harm either i.e. I can see some flash and no java in linux) I wonder how can I look my customer into the eyes and tell him that his site's visitor has to adapt his resources to whatever he already has on his machine or to trust and download a patch or install a program. I think it is bad business to actually eliminate some people who use different OS.

Hi photo41 and welcome!
BTW, if you're saying hello, I guess it would be nice to properly introduce yourself. "photo41" is kinda dry...
IMHO, the most universal way to show panoramas is Flash. You can have it on Mac/PC/Linux. The plugin is quite small and easy to install. The quality isn't the best but it's acceptable and also there is a great advantage. Interactivity! With a nice flash player you can have nice features. And you can use the same file, no need for a mac version, a pc version and another version for Linux.

Andrei sorry, since I haven't seen presentations I considered it optional and not impolite. I am Valentin, living in a small village called Stamora Romana - Timis, I am 41 (and divorced ). I take pictures since I was in the highschool and there are some cameras on medium format, small format and even for a brief period of time a 16 mm film camera that I kept in my hands and use. My dear friend Dorin introduced me to panoramic photography and as you can imagine I am very indebted for his angelic help and patience. Also he showed me his prodigious activity on this forum. Unfortunately I don't share his point of view on several other things (such as for instance the use and dependency upon Windows OS for the human race and what it followed). I am preparing a commercial site in order to get customers and eventually a business out of this and also intend to set up a personal one with art, travel and whatever I find interesting. In a short while the first site will be launched and I'll welcome all the feedback. I use a Canon 350D (sometimes with a Giottos adapter) and now am waiting for the 8mm Sigma that will be here shortly.

Nice to "meet" you, Valentin. An introduction is not mandatory, but since you've started a "hello world" thread, this somehow involves a little bit of introduction about who's starting the thread... that's all I was only curious about your name, I already figured it out that you're from Timisoara or around
Looking forward to see your work and the future website, so welcome to the club!

It's pleasant surprise to find such very passionate and good-willing co nationals, but I think on this forum the most distinguished members with many years of panography are a real treasure of experience. For you guys from Bucharest, how about a pano-meeting around Christmas (I'll be over there a few days)?

Re new Sigma 8 lens. The lens is absolutely great. I was afraid it wouldn't be sharp but I was definetely wrong. The little drawback is that the autofocus is not working but I'll probably fix it with some tape as well as the diafragm ring. I shot yesterday something and with Dorin's help it became a really nice pano. Actually since there is much more his work than mine, I consider it his work.

You're using the autofocus?! Since I make the very first panos with a Sony F828, I learned that autofocus is bad. So... no auto setting, everything is on manual mode
