Panoguide surfing

Hi! Is it just me? Since a few weeks it is almost impossible to surf the panoguide forum as I usually did (everyday the whole day). It hangs and/or takes a lot of time to open the selected topic. It is almost a torture to check the new threads.
Could IE 8.0.6001.18702 be responsible for that?
Regards, Martin

There is an incompatibility issue between IE 8 and early versions of Java. Download and install the latest Java here and that (hopefully) should fix your problem:
cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS...@CDS-CDS_Developer
Just select which language and agree to the license and accept all the defaults.
It doesn't take very long -- usually...

fwiw, no such problems on this end... using FF, since I loath IE... but I thought: I better give a proper answer relating to your problem... so I installed the latest version of IE (my installed version was 6.xxx ).. only to be told that I have to reboot the computer, and that I am NOT going to do, since I have work in progress. All the more reason to loathe IE...
Sorry for not being able to help more with this here and now.

Updating Java did not work for me. Still very, very painfully slow.

DennisS, are you also using IE8 ?
For me, on FF, it takes less than 3 seconds... mostly under 2 (depending on the size of the thread) ...to open up pages here in Panoguide, and that translates to "normal" operation.
Have you tried using FF for comparing?

Much to my own personal objections, I installed Fire Fox. I am a very long time IE user (since version 3). Panoguide now FLIES! The pages load almost instantly. Thanks Microsoft for your wonderful IE8. If I never used it, I would never have had an excuse to use Fire Fox. Now, whats this Linux I have heard so much about............?

I, too, have found browsing these forums using IE8 painfully slow in recent weeks. My Java installation is up-to-date. Firefox doesn't suffer from these infuriating delays and I've been using that for surfing PanoGuide as an effective solution. I don't have any trouble with other forums. There's definitely a problem with IE8 that needs investigating.

I don't think is a java related issue, I guess java is required for hosting, mean where is the panoguide is hosted and if in browser to display the panos immersively. I don't have java installed on my Windows XP, for that mater I'm unable to see the panos if I click on the panos on each header of these pages. Otherwise browsing the forums is ok on my end using IE7

I run IE and FF on my PC, purely because my wife and I both have facebook and Yahoo accounts and we got tired of logging in and out all the time. Every now and then I accidently use IE to surf the net, and it SO much slower than FF. Needless to say, she uses IE, and I use FF.....

I just logged on to my Netbank and noticed some information about Problems with IE8. You had to install some extra file for the registry about addzone to get it working.
Netbank is using Java but I do not think the addzone has anything to do with that.
It sounds like some security thing and I wonder if it is the same problem many have with Safari on Mac. There is an option in preferences about warning for fraudulent sites but this has caused Safari to hang at about every page you visit. I have just disabled it.

Hi, thanks for your replies! I suspect that new tool "InPrivate" could have something to do with this. After Hans` post I checked under the tools tab "InPrivate filter" (Ctrl+Shift+F)and it works better now. I will keep testing. I hope it is the solution. Regards, Martin

15 years ago I used Netscape... then I moved on to IE... and was using IE based browsers until I got fed up last year... or 2 years ago (time flies)... installed FireFox, didn't like to make the change, decided to use it for one week, and after that one week, I was completely sold on it. I only open IE when I need to do some browser compatibility testing, and that's it. FF is much better in every way, but it does require mental adaption period.
Anyone who has a problem with IE: No matter WHAT the problem is, then the solution is INSTALL FireFox.

Right -- Java has nothing to do with browsing Panoguide. It's just used for the back end of Panoguide -- sorry. I must have been thinking of something else -- or nothing at all. It was really stupid to suggest updating Java as a solution for your problem. I'm really sorry that I made you go through that.
But I just tried IE8 to browse Panoguide on my brand new Vista 64 machine and while it was slightly slower in some things, it wasn't unusable. It seemed to pause slightly for JavaScripts but wasn't impossibly slow.
I never use IE8 except to view Flash presentations. I use FF3.5 mostly but I don't have Flash installed in FF3.5 because I don't like all the Flash garbage people throw into web pages. So I isolated Flash in IE8.

Ken, one of the strong points of Firefox is, that you can install a LOT of small add-ons to your own needs. One of them is called 'flashblock' and can be downloaded through here: addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433 Once installed, it will block all flash content while you're browsing, except when you give permission to show that content. You can also add exceptions for trusted sites.
