Panos in header section-

I often see nice panoramas in the header section of this website that I would like to look at further- however most often there is no link or image credit etc that goes with them (some do have them though).
It would be nice to see who is creating these shots and to be able to look at them when they appear at the top of the pages

the information is there but there is a bug in the interface, if you make your browser window smaller (maybe less than 800px wide), the caption will appear in the bottom right of the photo.

Hi di19026 and michael,
Yes, sorry this is a bug I have not got round to resolving. Last time I checked it affected "only" Safari, but that doesn't mean I've forgotten it, I'm just working on other improvements.
Regards James

I've just updated the site to fix the banner image. I've tested this in Firefox 2, Safari 3 and MSIE 7 on Windows. Unfortunately I do not have a Mac available until Monday for Mac testing, so if you use a Mac please let me know if this fixes it for you too.
With the change:- * clicking anywhere on the banner image should take you to the gallery page for that image with more information etc * hovering on the left side of the banner image should display a tool tip with the title of the image and who created it * Mac users should hopefully now see the semi-transparent image title and photographer's name on the far right of the banner image, even if your web browser is set quite wide.
Regards James.

Well- after reading this message, I noticed that the image info wasn't there. After resizing my browser window it showed up. After loading another page with the now bigger window it was missing again. I hit the reload button without resizing the window and it appeared. This apparently "did something" that made the info show up on all resulting pages regardless of the browser window size.
I am using Safari v3.1.1 on Mac OS v10.5.2
I am going to quit the browser now and see if I can repeat it.

Excellent thanks di19026. The initial glitch you saw was probably because the fix is mostly in the site's main style sheet, and the style sheet is normally cached by your web browser.

works here too
it was also chopping off the last letter of the vr title which now seems fixed too.
you could add a few px of padding-left to the letters, but that's just the webdev in me talking

I am intrigued by the frequency with which certain panos turn up in the header section. (No, not yours James, I understand why we see more of yours, and fair enough).
I seem to see certain panos about once a week. There must be about a dozen pano headers I have seen at least half a dozen times each, yet I have never seen one of the panos from my gallery in the header. I am not complaining about, nor feel bad about that, it is that I am intrigued by it from the statistical point of view. Apart from the JR pano headers is the selection of pano header completely random?

Hi Pete,
I've had another look at the logic but I cannot find a mistake. I'll have to do some tests. On the plus side I spotted a tiny inefficiency in the logic, so the site should be a few hundredths of a second faster...
The logic for the randomly selected banner panoramas selects only 360 degree panoramas (the majority of the panoramas on the site are 360 of course).
Regards James.
