GEEEEE WIZZ
I have never known a site to give me such a problem when trying to post on a forum as this site.
Do i really need to log in every time i want to post a comment? i even ticked the remember me tab and it still makes me log in to every page i try and access.
I was also trying to reply to a question that someone has answered on my post but for some reason it would not preview it or indeed post it
also why can i not copy the text i have just written?
i write a long reply the site wont let me post it and it will not let me copy my own text so that i can try again later what a complete nightmare

You mean all the mmmmmm, TWO, posts?

Check you your browser settings, it might be settings with your cookies not allowing the password to be remembered. It makes you log in to EVERY page?? That cant be right, if it is , contact james the administrator.

I've never witnessed this, I have a feeling that its something to do with settings on your browser. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Try playing around with the settings in your browser's security tab, Lower your security level and see if it makes a difference.

Did you select the text? Did you try edit/copy? What about CTRL+C.
Good luck......and let us know how you get on

I did experienced this kind of not able to reply if the post to reply for contain some tags like Gus's reply where is a javascript tag in that thread.
Maybe James is kind to investigate, I can point to those threads in question
At that time I even found a workaround www.panoguide.com/forums/feedback/3452/

Reaper You can copy all or part of the text you've typed by placing the cursor at the beginning of the text you want to copy, scroll if necessary to the end of the text, hold down the Shift Key and click where you want the "select" to end. That will select the text, then touch the selection with the mounse pointer and right click to get the Windows Cut/Copy/Paste box
Although I often wind up back a the Login Page after clicking Post reply, the posting usually gets posted.
My experience is that it happens when I take a long time to complete the post, especially when I'm minimizing the Panoguide Window and open another to get a link or something.
Its not worth losing your cool over though

Uh oh looks like I've got my work cut out doing some debugging!
After you login, if you do nothing for 20 minutes your session expires and you are asked to login again. Therefore if you spend a long time writing a reply to someone on the forum, your session may expire and when you click "post reply" or "preview" you may be asked to login again. However if this happens you should not loose everything you typed in. If you do, this is a big bug and please let me know (preferably contact me privately!).
The site does require cookies to keep you logged in but I am sure you would notice if you had cookies switched off in your web browser security settings because numerous websites would not work properly or refuse you access.
When you login the cookie created lasts only as long as you keep your web browser running. The "remember me" cookie will last much longer, but you can delete it using the security/privacy settings in your web browser and it can also be deleted by privacy software you might be running on your computer such as Window Washer and CCleaner.
I'll endeavour to run some tests this weekend. In the meantime please let me know Reaper if you continue getting this problem, either here or email help [at] panoguide.com
Regards James.

If your spelling is as good as mine, you might do better to type your reply in MS Word (or equiv if you don't like Bill Gates) with its spell check, then cut and paste to these pages. The other advantage of this is to permit you to review a complete thread while replying, not just the last message.
Reaper, You say, 'also why can i not copy the text i have just written?' Well you can if you do it in Review, then go back to Edit to edit it.
Oh, and Reaper, keep your hair on, the guy who runs this site only has one pair of hands and possibly a life outside Panoguide.

Good news: I've tracked down what's been going wrong with "edit" and "reply" if the message contains code. This has affected a few threads in the past: www.panoguide.com/forums/qna/3447/ www.panoguide.com/forums/qna/4606/
If you're interested, the cause is the HTML in the post which the site didn't handle correctly (ooops). I am confident this is resolved in most web browsers. My test in Safari for Windows failed, and I have yet to resolve why. But it works for MSIE and Firefox, so I've put the change live as it's still an important improvement.
The last many many weeks I've been working hard gardening and sorting out my house, but today it's raining and I thought I'd have a day in and might get round to watching the TV shows and movies I have not got round to watching... maybe.

I have never been able to back swipe within the input field when posting on this forum using Internet Explorer though Ctrl+A and then spell check. Whilst typing this I have just tried again and you still can't backswipe the whole text. Probably it is a security setting within the browser but it doesn't happen on any other site so I have no plans to muck with these settings.
I'm sure all of us at some stage have written a lengthy answer only to have it disappear into the ether. "Sometimes" you don't loose your message after logging back in again. Sometimes it's the IESpell program (browser plug-in) that screws me over.

Hi Smooth,
I've not reproduced the login problem yet, but I've just fixed the Ctrl-A one. Thanks for pointing it out!

well if we're posting bugs etc.
i'd like to chime in and request that clicking links internal to the forum opens them in a new window/tab instead of having to use the back button to return to the listing you are starting from.

Hi Michael,
Links in the forum as well as external links elsewhere in the site are supposed to open in a new window, but I have checked and there is a flaw in the code.
Thinking about it, since I first created this version of panoguide, I have got into the habit of right-clicking to open links in a new tab. If the links always open in a new window/tab, I no longer have the choice. Is it not better for the links to open in the same window and if you want to open them in a new window/tab you just right-click?
I'll update the code to behave in this way, and I'd appreciate your feedback.
Thanks James.

actually most forums behave as this one in that respect. so don't change that.
what i should have stated was that command clicking on mac (all browses) opens both a new tab and takes the page you are on to the same place so when you command click (expecting to have the link open in a new tab or window) you actually just get both windows to the same place.
i haven't tried tabbed browsing on windows, so i'm not sure how it works there.
i'm not sure how this could be changed though

Hi Michael,
I've checked here on my PC: Ctrl-Click (equivalent of command-click) opens the link in a new tab now. Shift-click opens a new window. Clicking on its own will now open in the same window.
For me, this means the greatest flexibility - if you don't like ending up with lots of windows/tabs, just click. If you do, then use your shift or ctrl/command keys... ?
Regards James.

unfortunately it's all the same on a mac, control-click opens the right click menu and there's no changing that. command click still behaves as it has and shift click doesn't do anything that i can discern.
thanks for checking in to it though, i can live with it the way it is

Hi Michael,
I have the solution for you now that I've done a quick test in Safari on a Mac: Apple-click opens the link in a new tab/window. Apologies if I am stating the obvious!
Regards James.
