My pano on the gallery has dissapeared
Posted: 3 Dec 2007 at 19:43 GMT
Hi i uploaded a pano to the gallery before so that i could link to it to show you something and ask for your suggestions but its gone?

I have loked at my settings and it says gallery images 0 (we are allowed 5)

Any idea how to find it so i can link to it in my next question?

Thanks

Hi Spongebob,

As moderator I "disapproved" your gallery post earlier today - you would still have been able to see it if you were logged in.

I am curious what you are about to post in the forum as the image you have uploaded does not appear to be a panorama and you have not posted any description or other information against the gallery image. In other words I was thinking "off topic?". Anyway, I have reinstated your image in anticipation of an interesting forum discussion... surprised

James.

Hi Spongebob,

Sorry if I offended you by removing your image earlier today, however as I said, your image does not - at first sight at least - appear to be a panorama and that is after all what this website is all about.

I moved your post because this thread is about how the website works and not a Q&A about panoramic photography in general. Simple.

Now, back to the plot, I want to hear what it was you were going to say about your test image?

Regards
James.

Hi Spongebob and hi James

I've looked at your test picture and as I see it, it is a pano - although 'artificial' in construction. You could make each item clickable leading to an object movie! Looks like a commercial application, another kind of 'shop window'.

On that subject, are object movies 'off topic', James?

Thankyou Nick

i too thought it was a pano this is exactly why i uploaded into the gallery so that i could ask questions regarding it, however James pulled it from the gallery without question which i find rather over moderaterish (if theres such a word)then pulled my post from the q/a and placed it here which to be honest with you has no place on the website feedback board (in my opinion)

sorry James but i can understand on some certain forum boards where there is a need for a moderator to remove certain posts for certain reasons, but in this case i uploaded the "pano" so that i could ask certain questions and let the board see the example and i think you where a little hasty in removing it.

Amyway laugh

I created a pano using 6 shots taken with canon 400d, sigma 8mm, nodal ninja 3, ptgui, pano2qtvr.

Then opened up the image with photoshop flood filled the original image with black, then cropped out some of my vintage handheld games and layered them onto the image. Put this into pano2qtvr and tried creating an equirectangular but it all came out squashed up so i had to settle for a cylendrical.

Is it possible to use this type of method to create an equirectangular and if so what did i do wrong?

The reason i used my old toys is i was experimenting (hence "test" title on image) to see if/how i could link each image to a seperate page where information and 360 of that product could be shown.

It may not be your typical church interior pano but i still think its a pano and rather cool/different type to

In what way were you not pointing out a problem with the way panoguide works, and therefore in what way is this not "website feedback"?

In other words you created an image with the same dimensions as a panorama you had created. IMHO at the moment you erased your image by filling the area with black it ceased to be a panoramic photo/image.

You are not the first and certainly won't be the last person to post an image on panoguide and then ask for advice about it. But what I am questioning here is whether the image is a panoramic image. If you were asking how best to improve the photographic technique you had used with your 400d, how to handle difficult lighting conditions, etc, fair enough. But this image did not involve you taking photos and stitching them, or using any kind of panoramic camera.

Regarding object movies, the panoguide gallery does not support them, but they are not off topic for the forums. But this image is not an object movie either.

I do not for one minute object to discussions about hotspots, players etc in the forum. On that point, it would be relatively easy to create hotpots on each game icon within your image and link them to a web page (although panoguide does not support hotspot creation). You could achieve this with QuickTime, ImmerVision's PurePlayer (as used on panoguide) or other players.

James im not even going to bother having an argument with you on your website.

If you want to be petty then you go ahead there are plenty more panoramoic website forums to join

I was testing a method and was seeking opinions/suggestions the whole point of forums but its your ball and your clearly letting me now that so take your ball and go find somneone else to play with

Spongebob, I think you're being a bit touchy and too hasty here. James has re-instated your pic, thus giving you the benefit of his doubt.
