After 3 years of research and development and accumulating numerous feedbacks and suggestions from customers and forum members, Fanotec now proudly presents the Nodal Ninja 5--an affordable professional spherical panoramic tripod head for professional cameras and lens.
Here are a few highlights: * longer arms (about 40mm longer than NN3). This is so it can accommodate larger cameras (like the D3 or MK III or cameras with battery packs) and big lenses (like 17-40 F4, 70-200mm F2.8) . *upper arm rotator with 15 degree positive locks, potentially good for batch stitching. locks can be disabled for other angular interval as small as 2.5 degrees, good for making high resolution mosaics. * support up to 10kgs with positive locks, 5-7kgs without the locks. * more precise detent mechanism, potentially good for batch stitching. * as small as 10 degree stops in lower arm rotator, detent can be disabled on the fly without any tool. * more accurate rotator base with locking function. * angular increment of 2.5 degree in the rotators' markings, good for making high resolution mosaics. * 4 rail stops for "remembering" camera and lens settings (2 camera and 2 lens). * SALE PRICED AT ONLY $399.95 More pictures and info can be found here nodalninja.com/nodal_ninja_5_pro_pan_head.html
In short, Nodal Ninja 5 is a unique product that addresses BOTH needs of people in making spherical panoramas and high resolution (gigapixel) mosaics.

Dear Nick:
Nice work your new NN 5 bracket - that´s what we need for the heavy, big cameras !!!
We are very happy that your new bracket will work exellent with our motorized MK PanoMachine.
Also we have made an adapter for the ROUNDSHOT VR-Drive, so you can use the rotation platform as well with the new NN 5 or current NN 3
Best regards from Germany

Hi Dylan,
There are more photos in the link to nodalninja.com kindly posted by Nick, from which, this one will be good for comparison:
I suppose that the scale is in cm and so one can have real size reperesentation of the new NN5

Fantastic news Nick! I now have a great answer to that question I've been asked recently "what do you want for Christmas?".
It looks like NN5 addresses the problems I have with NN3 in particular being able to use my Canon 10-22 lens (currently I use the adaptor to space the camera away from the swing arm). Anyway, can't wait for NN5...
Regards James.

Nick, Good luck with the new Nodal Ninja. I am sure we all wish you lots of success. I particularly like the rail lock plates. I will make a couple for my NN. But there still seems to be something missing to prevent the screws going missing. This:
What do you think?

Nick,
It's hard to tell from the pics but I can't see any alignment notch/mark on the sides of either the rail stop or the camera mounting block?

Hi Mark, I'm sure that Nick appreciate very much the customers feedback. Maybe some feedback like yours sent to nodalninja.com to determine that the currently sell similar part of NNs to look like this
you can see that is a black little ring which prevents the screws to be loosed.

Hi Roger, the mounting block is bigger on NN5 and that opens the way to place those marks in an easy to see place like in this picture from nodalninja.com

Roger, The locking plates (guides) obviates the need to use the embossed scale every time you reassemble the unit. A nice simple idea. Dorin, Is your picture with the captive screw from a production unit or a private mod? Whichever, it doesn't seem to be incorporated on your photo of the disassembled NN5. Incidently the masts on many old units are a bit too short to allow a true zenith shot - I've heard the same remark from others - but this is not the main reason I would like Nick to make an extension piece for the mast available for sale (6cm?). A longer mast would reduce the apparent footprint of the unit and make retouching the nadir easier. Mark

Mark,
The rubber square washer/mounting block is over the black ring of captive screw and cover it, you might not be able to see it if the washer/block is on. The photo is indeed from a production unit.

Dorin, Sorry, I have corrected it now, but I was referring to your photo of the disassembled unit and mistakenly said, Nick's. In your photo I see the mast and its mounting screw, but can't spot the retaining part you refer to, but if it is provided, that's good. Again sorry for my incorrect reference. Mark

Mark, I've corected too your correction.
In the second photo, indeed provided by me but from nodalninja.com, you can see the top of the screw from the mounting block the captive screw is a bit at the right, as you look at, it is screwed in another hole like in T-adapters of NN3. The screw will remain captive and the mounting block, I guess, is meant to remain captive/attached to the camera when the camera is taked from NN5, and in that way to be re-mounted in the same position later on.

The longest arm in NN3 is 165mm, that in NN5 is 210mm. On average NN3 is 40mm longer in each arm. The weight is about 820g in NN5, ie about twice of NN3. This is due to longer and thicker arms and larger lower rotator.
