History of panoguide
In 1996 the beginnings of panoguide were just a page or two in a personal website. At that time panoramic imaging and "as-if-you-are-there" style panoramic image viewers were quite new. A lot of people started asking how the images were created, so in addition to showing panoramic images, the site started explaining how to create them. In November 1998 panoramic software reviews were added for the first time, and the number of reviews expanded gradually.
The name "panoguide" was originally just the name of a folder in the website and a convenient abbreviation of "panoramic guide". After someone said "you should see the panoguide site at ..." in the forums on dpreview.com, the abbreviation was adopted as the name for the site in April 2000.
Since the site first became known as panoguide.com, it has been relaunched a couple of times. The first relaunch in 2004 was an excuse to update look and feel and add a forum (plus a lot of behind the scenes stuff to make the site easier to manage).
In 2006, the panoguide gallery was refreshed and opened up to all registered users (up to then the gallery had contained only the images of the founder, James Rigg).
